I'm trying to remove the release shaft from the transaxle housing so that I can install the new bushings. According to Helms, it seems that the lever should slide off the shaft after the bolt is removed. Mine is not budging even after PB Blaster and a couple whacks with a hammer, but I'm afraid of bending or breaking something. Am I missing something, or should the lever just slide off? Is it common for it to be stuck?

I'm going to go back out and fiddle some more, but I wanted to go ahead and ask in the meantime.

does it rotate?

IIRC, all that holds it in place is that one set screw/bolt.

maybe pry upwards on it between the arm and the tranny case?

is the lever moving with the shaft?

did the bolt come out easily? if it didnt, you might have broken the bolt, and the piece is still in there, holding it... thats what i accidentally did with mine.... :bonk:

Heat it up with a torch of some sort, you'll be banging, twisting, pulling, whackin', and cussin' like a **** for a whole week! After you heat it up, where it's orange, put a hammer head under the lever and **** it up and out, a couple times usually does it. Be sure to stay close to the shaft, or you'll bend the lever if you're too far out and whack it real good. :thumb:

Yeah, I ended up heating it for a while, while trying to keep the shaft cool. Eventually it got hot enough that I could beat it off. Everything looks good now. :thumb:

Until I broke it loose, no the lever did not rotate on the shaft. Now it slides on and off with ease.

is he talkin about the TOB?, because i need some help switching mine out too

He is talking about the TOB fork, which operates the TOB. You should be able to slide your TOB off without any problems. Make sure you don't **** it, or it'll be tough.
