The clutch on my car has 50k on it and my tranny has 110k miles. I have a hard time shifting gears. And when I shift into reverse it grinds. Yes, I know to put into a forward gear then put into reverse without disengaging the clutch.

People talk of a ?stiff clutch?. Are they talking about it being difficult to push the clutch petal down, or changing gears once the clutch petal is down? My problem is the latter. Maybe it?s because I just bought the car and I am not used to the shifter. Going from neutral to first is the worst. I have to force it every time. I will play with the RPMs and with the clutch petal, but it normal take just but force to get it into first. So what do you guys think? Any help is dearly appreciated.

Me thinks you're looking at possible clutch job and tranny rebuild. I had same symptoms as you years ago (4 if I recall). Blocking rings are probably worn.

The lack of the ability of the transaxle to access reverse gear without grinding, even after a lengthy wait to let the shafts spin down, indicates the clutch is not fully disengaging. The first check is to lift the clutch pedal with about 10 pounds of force to see if the cable needed tensioning. If that doesn't change the situation, the pressure plate fingers and throwout (release) bearing are probably worn. This prevents the full release of the clutch and is causing the stiff pedal travel. Search on "Clutch Time" as a title to see my posts and pictures of my clutch and transaxle experience.

and is causing the stiff pedal travel.
The clutch pedal is easily moved. Shifting the gears once the petal is down is the problem.

Thanks for showing me your "clutch time" posts. I will defiantly look there a lot if I do change my clutch. Now that you’re done with changing your clutch do you still need that video? Are you willing to give it up for some $$$?
