Clutch grabbing on floor...Adjustable?

I also have a 92 MTX, just purchased it, fixed minor suspension work, and its done... Clutch grabs barely off of the floor, have to consciously hold clutch to floor, to avoid grinding into gears. YET, you can not make the clutch break away or slip, and usually bad clutches would grab on top, correct? Is the cable adjustable........?? Thanks in advance!!!

with the car off, and in 1st gear, use the tip of your toe to push the pedal all the way to the floor. let you foot slip off and the pedal slam to it's top most position. That will usually adjust the cable.

No Luck on sidestepping the clutch, any other suggestions? The car drives sweet, it sux about this adjustment...... It is grabbing on the floor, but will ont break away, that would deem it not a clutch, right? HELP ME

Try using your foot under the pedal to pull the pedal upward. If you hear any clicks there was some cable slack taken up.

If you've done the self adjust procedure and it doesn't get any better, there's a chance your pressure plate is going bad. For some reason, on a SHO, when the PP starts going bad the clutch engages right off the floor and first gear get's more difficult to engage.

I'm in the middle of a clutch job and the clutch I pulled out had at least half of it's life left, but the fingers on the pressure plate were at least 80% worn through. The clutch kit includes pp and clutch, so when you're in there you may as well replace both. SHO Nut Performance sells the parts and a video on the procedure.

I agree that the pressure plate is gone. I have seen several SHO's this way and they behave just like you say with the clutch engagement.

Mine was the bearing failed and buzz-sawed through the fingers on the p.plate; did the same things just before i felt the bearing give and then very qiuckly cut through the fingers. The fingers were worn serverely and bearing was shattered. if you feel a sudden change in the pedal the p.plate fingers are next ! take it to a knowledgable machenic...trust me... I just wasted $700 on my clutch job that I'm gonna have to redo! good luck !

THANKS TO ALL FOR THE INFO! So it seems the clutch may need replacing? Would a bad ratchet/adjuster cause this?? It is grabbing right on the floor, and hates going into 1st gear unless consciously stuffing the clutch to the floor...PLEASE HELP!

You could have a bad adjuster. If you look on top of your tranny where the cable hooks into the tranny there should not be any free play there. If there is then the posibility of have a bad adjuster is there. So, if this is the case then you could adjust is manually at the clutch pedal. If you don't have any slack at the cable then it is time for a clutch job. Sorry.
