I have been doing some searching and I am just wanting to confirm that I am looking in the right area.

Problem:
After accelerating from making stop at a light or wherever, there is a "clunk" coming from the drivers front area. The harder I accelerate, the louder the "clunk". there is also a steady "squeak squeak" coming from the area in question, it is proportional to speed.

I am led to believe that it is the front axle due to the "clunk".
I don't believe that it is the sub frame, but since I am under the car, I can check

Question:
What do I need to to do diagnose?
How do I check the Axle, bearings & sub frame?

Thanks

The clunk is the strut tension rod. Replace its bushings with the Energy Suspension kit and weld the cups to the subframe per the service bulletin. Check for a dragging brake caliper that could be causing the squeak.

I have a clunk in my 94 mtx and thanks Bob for posting the solution of welding the inner metal bushing. It you hear the clunk and it makes a repeating banging noise when you accelerate while turning it's a motor mount. If it just clunks at random when your going down the road or shifting then it more than likely the strut tension rod that Bob mentions.

it could also be the cv joint in the axle, so don't rule that out just yet.

generally, you will be able to see that the bushings mentioned above are in poor shape if they are the problem - I have yet to hear those kind of noises unless the bushings are clearly looking beat.

Thanks. I'll check that out too when I crawl under it this weekend.

If it doesn't also clunk when you brake, and when you turn, then it probably isn't a CV axle. I also vote either TSR or MM.
