Hi all. To change the CID seal do you have to remove any other parts other than the CID? If so is it the same process as the front 60k? My CID has periodical problems but still works but this smoking is driving me nuts.

That cam seal is a pain to change. Mostly because it sits so far back against the firewall that it's hard to get a screw and screwdriver in there to pull the old one. Plus, it's difficult to press the new one in (again for lack of space). After about 5 minutes of messing with replacing mine, I said scew it and pulled the intake, valve cover, and the bearing cap that holds the seal in place. There's nothing to fight that way and frankly, I didn't think it'd take any longer. You also don't have to worry about scoring the cam removing the old seal. You will need some RTV when replacing the bearing cap, plug well seals, and valve cover. All of the gaskets are reusable.

I use flat head screw drivers to take mine out, but I always remove the plate deal that the sensor receives signal from. That thing is held by little screw heads and I recommend trying to remove them with a flat head. If you use a screw driver, you're most likely to strip them and have to go by a "bolt-out" tool from craftsman, I had to use that on mine. For installing the new seal, I always removed the metal bracket held by two 8mm bolts before removing the old seal and that's what I use to install the new one. I get the seal stuck on a little, then I put the bracket in place and evenly tighten both sides down together and it presses the seal in place [done 3 SHO's this way]. :thumb:
