I can't figure out which way these go back together. I am thinking each one is different because on the inside of the base of the tensioner there is a shiny ring on the bottom from where the piston rub against it. The ring is not there in the other one.
I listed a pic of each tensioner with both possible ways of installation.

I believe it is Number 1. There should also be a spring on the inside of the larger piston. It fits on top of the small oil filling piston and pushes against the larger piston...which fits inside the tensioner.
The oil fills through the bottom weep hole and then fills through the small piston to supply pressure to the tensioner. If possible just stretch the little spring back to full tension by hand and then reassemble.

Matt wassup dude. I'd take Matt's advise. I though it was pic #1, but if he says it's #2 then take his word. A real smart guy.

But the explanation work's for pic 2. :thumb:

Do you guys have any explanation as to why you think it is the 2nd pic? I believe the way these things go together is vital to if they are going to work properly or not. Not only do they apply pressure to the chain but they supply oil to it and the rest of the valve train as well.

Sorry i thought both pitures were of the front tensioner

Both pictures are correct.
1st pic is rear tensioner
2nd is the front

I just took apart both tensioners to be sure

Are the tensioners that you took apart the older style because I've heard they have different internals than this newer style that I have?
