When I turn the lights on the whole thing lights up as it should, I know it's a seperate wire from the power though. But when I try to insert a CD nothing happens, it won't even attempt to take it or turn on, it just remains blank and off. Is it broke for good or did I maybe unplug something? I dunno if the power for the lights and the other stereo wires are all in the same plug or on different ones. Plus, for the life of me I can't get the stereo out with the little keys that take out Ford stereos, I insert them, turn them, and one side pops out, I try to pop the other out and the first side pops back in, I try to pull them out all together and all four keys just pop out at once. Thanks for any help!

I would search, but "CD" is too short for the search to use and "player" just brings up too much to sort through usually, but I'll try and see.

If it does nothing at all but light up chances are the player is dead. All the power connections are in one connector so that probably is not your problem. If you want a replacement look for one that came from a '97-'99 or so Mustang. Ford and Sony had redesigned the internal sensors so it can never suffer from the "clicking death" problems of the older units.

Is it the same model number or should I look for a particular one? There's a few on ebay but the one I'm looking at says "1994 1995 1996 1997" and that's it, but they say it's from a 97.

When you look at the Ford part number it should start with an F7, F8, or F9. They all look the same from the outside but the part number tells all.

the part number should be in the format: ####-19B160-A# where the (#) slots could be any number or letter. for instance, XR3F-19B160-AA or F8BF-19B160-AB, etc.

You can however fix any of the cd players real easy. Especially the ones with "clicking" problems or ones where it can't decide what to do with cds like spitting them or constantly rotating them. with the unit right-side up and facing you (like it would be if it were installed in its slot in the car), get a set of those small jewelers screwdrivers and take off the top 2-3 philips head screws depending on which model you have and take the top metal cover off the case of the unit. there should be a green circuit board that is either screwed down with 2 smaller philips head screws and has a brown ribbon cable attached to it or is clipped in with 2 wires attached to it to the top of the metal case of the actual cd playing mechanism. unscrew or unclip it and take some cassette head cleaner or electrical contact cleaner spray or liquid and spray it on either 2 black plunger micro-switches or the infared obstruction sensors (depending on which model you have, the sensors look like small LEDs, the switches are square and black and have push in plungers). work the switches to get the cleaner in them and let the whole thing evaporate dry then reinstall. that should fix the problem. another cause of the "clicking" could be from loose plastic on the right side of the cd playing mechanism. the plastic cd accepting piece that works all of the players insert/play/eject routines sometimes likes to fall off track from its gears, just pop that back into place if so. all the gears and the piece are white and you can't pop them in the wrong way. if you need any more help let me know. i might be able to get some pictures of the process.

Well, I cleaned the tiny little switches, and the LED-like things were clean, and I don't have a click, and it still doesn't work. So I'm just assuming the whole thing is busted, I mean it is 12-13 years old. Getting a 98 Mustang one for 10 bucks or so, so I figure it's worth it. I'm just going to work on this one I have right now and see if i can fix it after a while, if so I'll give it to my girlfriend for her taurus, we'll make it work somehow.
