BenSwanson:
i had a problem like this when i took intake off, it wouldnt start and backfired. The solution was that i put the wrong bolt (a shorter bolt) back in the crossover tubes and it wasnt grounding properly. Just an idea!
I didn't dissasemble the intake when I removed it...so it wouldn't be the crossover tubes.

The fuel filter was installed correctly, and I have been having this hard start condition for about a month now. Ever since I swapped fuel pumps...

The plugs were installed as per someone's advice here

that is correct firing order. It doesnt matter that u didnt take the intake apart. The bolts that hold the intake to the engine at the crossover tube are the ones that ground the DIS.

Well I went out to the car this morning to check the fuel at the schrader valve by putting a pen in there, and there was NOTHING! No fuel even trickled out! has the FPR gone out now? I think I might have found the problem. Even though the car has been sitting, there should be some fuel in the rails, correct?

Depending on how long the car has been sitting. Try priming the fuel pump a few times by turning the key from off to start a couple times. Then check for fuel at the schreader valve. If it's been sitting for too long the system will eventually be depressurized. If you still don't have fuel at the valve after priming the fuel pump you have a fuel delivery problem. Which especially makes sense since you've been having problems starting the car since you did the fuel pump. Looks like you might have to pull the tank again to double check your work.

The work on the fuel tank was done correctly, and if the fuel pump was bad, (which I doubt), there would either be a interruption of the whine of the fuel pump, or a drop in pitch. I guess I could drop the tank and replace the entire pump since it is less than $100. SHEESH! Well, the car was sitting overnight, is that long enough for the system to depressurize?

I guess the best way is to try and let the fuel pump prime again like you said, and THEN see if the schrader valve has pressure. If not, then it is FPR, if it does, then I guess it is pump. Man this is really turning into a PITA! headbang

Just my 2 cents...

I get 29 psi at the schrader valve at idle on my 89 mtx. it drops to about 25lbs under throttle. I understand this is normal (the FPR bleeds off excess pressure when it is functioning properly right?).

Hope that helps!

Jeremy, I'm almost certain the FPR will not hold fuel in there overnight. I believe it's for shorter term restarts. You really need to get a gauge on there and see what's going on. Are you able to get Scott to help when he gets back?

check my other post...about the FPR...now I know that it probably ISN'T that and I need to check all my connections from the fuel pump to the motor. I dunno..
