it is idleing (sp) just shy or 2000. currently i only have one of the little hoses that connect the egr tubes to the little sliver box on the back of the intake, could this be the prob, no where open tonight to get a hose so have to wait till the morning.

second - at first the car would start up rev really high and then sputter and quit, now it is just idleing high, can this be the IAC?

thanks guys for all the help. thumb

The really big Vac line back on the passenger side corner, did you reconnect it? I forgot to, and had very similar symptoms. You definately have a vacuum leak.

Check the PCV line under the TB also.

A very high idle speed after removing the intake like you are seeing is very likely due to a vacuum leak. You must check all the vacuum connections that were removed. The two rubber hoses between the EGR tube and the DPFE sensor are usually at exhaust system pressure, but with the EGR valve open, the pressure is reduced below the exhaust system pressure as the EGR tube vents the line to the intake manifold vacuum.

now while the car is in gear it will idle just fine but then it will jump to 1000 and then fall right back down to normal idle. when the car isn't in gear it will either idle high or low. any suggestions?

Missed that, sorry.

Did you reset the computer after fixing the EGR problem? If not, do that first. It still sounds to me like you might have a vacuum leak.

so are you saying 1000 is a high idle? I didn't catch if the egr hose droped it to 1K from 2K or if it is still at 2K. Try reseting the idle first. Are you sure the intake is properly seated on the heads? I had a vacuum leak from it not being correctly lined up once. easy way to check is just loosen everything up, and if it rocks, then it isn't seated right. loosen up the rubber couplings and shake it into place, then tighten everything back up. good luck!
