Cannister Purge 1 Solenoid failure

The last remaining trouble code I get on the car is "Cannister Purge 1 Solenoid failure". I am assuming I can just replace the cannister purge valve to clear it up. Any suggestions / anyone have a description of location / procedure.

Looking at the circuit, I'll be damned if I can figure out how the EEC-IV can diagnose this directly (it can be inferred).

The canister is the large black rectangular box mounted next to the horns in the SHO.
There should be a short hose that hangs down. There is a second hose that leads to the intake manifold and connects near the throttle body. In that line is the vent solenoid. Another hose leads to the gas tank.

The vent solenoid is common to many different Fords so it is not specific for the SHO.

Many users bypass it when it fails with a piece of hose, or if they're really cheap like me, just drill it out with a 1/16" drill bit.

When it fails, the carbon canister gets saturated with fuel and will give off a strong fuel smell.

I just rechecked the EEC code. It is definitely 565 - "CANP solenoid circuit failure".

I looked for the cannister behind the intake plenum and below / behind the throttle body to trace the vacuum line but did not see it. Is it on the right (firewall) side of the block? Also, no strong fuel odor.

I said, next to the horns. Stick your head under the hood and have someone push on the horn pad. That will help you locate them.

I have heard (read) these guys calling the intake runners "snakes", "horns", "tubes", etc. When you mentioned the line to the throttle body / intake I just asssuuuuuumed you meant top of the block somewhere. tool

I will check for it later ...

The only thing the EEC can check for in this solenoid is an open circuit. That means it's either unplugged or it's, well, broken.
