The first time I replaced all three cam seals, It worked fine, except for the Cam Position sensor seal leaks. I have replaced that seal 4 times in a month, The last two times with Felpro seals and Black RTV on the outside of the seals edge. I read the instructions on Pheniox SHO, I even made the Tool out of PCV, but the seal holds for a day or two and starts leaking. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong. thanks

Sounds like the camshaft got gouged. If the central shaft area gets nicked or gouged even slightly, it will forever and always leak. You might could sand it down... might... but you may need a new cam...

That seal had to be changed 3 times when the 60K was done on my SHO. Come to find out there was a slight burr on the housing that would slice into the rubber of the seal when it was put in place. I think he greased it up and slid the bottom on first very carefully.

The seal may be getting cut when going over the edge of the cam. Try wrapping the end of the cam with a thin layer of electrical tape. Don't let the seal go crooked when you are installing it. It is difficult, but keep it straight. I use a flat piece of steel as a low clearance hammer to tap the PVC coupling installer. I've never had luck levering them in place like shophoenixproject does. Use a magnifying glass to check for nicks and gouges in the cam. Worst case, pull the rear valve cover so you can remove the cam cap. Then you can easily install the seal.

Try either the genuine Ford PN E9DZ-6700-A seals (Made in Japan), about $10 ea. from your dealer or Timken 1213N, which has a steel case instead of the rubber coated case used on Felpro and Ford seals.

Nonsense.

The FelPros have been used by many who knew what they were doing and the seals worked fine.

There is no need to replace a camshaft due to a damaged seal-contact area. Install a Redi-Sleeve - about $30 from AutoZone (special order).

Two of mine did the same thing. They were getting caught on the lip of the cam. I also used tape and some grease. It worked

Its difficult to get the seal on the rear cam unless you have the Ford service tool, since the seal has to slip over the end of the camshaft at the same time the seal has to start going into the housing. They always leaked for me until I got the Ford kit w/ the little sleeve that ramps up the id of the seal to slide on the cam. If you don't have the Ford tool, you have to be VERY careful not to mess up the id of the seal as you start it on the cam....

Chris Archer [Mr. A] has posted that they (NESHO) have had problems with a number of the FelPro seals, to include the crank and cam seals. He even provided actual measurements for the crank main seal, I believe. Additionally, there have been multiple forum members posting of problems with the Fel Pro cam seals leaking in a very short period of time after install, even when using RTV with those seals.

Another issue is the Timken steel cam seals, which will gouge the cam seal seat if the seal goes in crooked, has any nicks in the seal as it is seated, or is improperly removed.

Why risk needing to spend $30 for a readi-sleeve (which coincidentally is made by Timken), when you can entirely avoid the potential for any problems for just a few bucks more, with OEM seals?
