My brother (21yrs old) is considering buying a 1998 Silver SHO. It's got 73,000 miles and all the standard options that came on a 98, leather, 6 disc and so forth. I went with him to the dealer to look at it and listen for any cam failures that I could pick up on. I've heard the audio samples from V8SHO.com (i think that's were they are from) and I didn't hear anything.

They are asking $7950.00 for it. It retails at $13,500 according to KBB.com and the trade in value of it is around $8500.00 so the dealer is selling it for less that what KBB.com says a dealer would give you for it!! Tohey told him they would give him $2000.00 for his 92 Ford Ranger. It's paid off too!! This really sucks if you ask me...So in the end he could end up getting a 98 SHO for $5950.00 and having payments of around $190.00 a month!!!!

I know I sound jealous, but oh-well. My real question is, is there anything else that I should look for. I checked for rust in the trunk, cam noises, bending with the frame and so forth.

Anything else?

Thanks for the help.

Only other obvious thing to check is the transmission, since some people seem to have trouble with it. Normal checks for an auto, that is slipping, noisey, etc. Otherwise it sounds like a good deal. Do not let the cam thing scare you (or him) off. There are about 100 reported failures out of about 10,000 units. And a fix is fairly simple and not all that expensive, if you want to go to a preventive repair.

Yes!

Carfax that baby....You never know what you might find out.

Seek out a service plan or warranty, you're gonna want one with this car.

Good call in the warrenty. I got one when I bought mine in Jan/02. Got it from "warrentywizard.com". I got the 7year/100,000 mile premium coverage for 1180.00. They even let you pay it off over 10 payments.
I recommend this to anyone who is still under the 75,000 mark. It adds peace of mind. For only 97.00 a month for 10 months.

I kinda hope everything turns out for him, that way I won't be the only SHO'r in the family. :)
