i was driving rather fast over the crest of a hill, and the front of my car came off the road slightly. when the tires made contact again, i noticed the car handling badly, noise from the FR wheelwell, and also i had no brakes to speak of - the pedal was easily mashed to the floor. upon further inspection, i noticed the FR wheel is at a 5-10 degree angle such that the top of the wheel sticks out more than the bottom of the wheel. not wanting to do further damage, i limped the car to a nearby parking lot and left it there. any idea what i broke? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

clem just put a new right-front ball joint on my car when i had my clutch done this summer. i suppose it could have broken again...ive been getting a metallic ticking noise out of that wheelwell for a while now, mostly when i turn the wheel to the left considerably. thanks again for any input.

Kenney that car has bad karma. You have gremlins or something.

On another note I'm staying at the Litchfield Inn for my interview next week.

it sounds to me like your CV joint separated. Check the hub nut and the joint to make sure everything is tight, and check the axle for play. The ticking almost is a giveaway that it is something CV related, esp when you turn the wheel.

1k is crazy!! sounds like you need to become mechanically inclined. Now that you know what needs fixed it wouldnt be too hard to do yourself!! I've been through it over and over!!

my total bill only ended up being $700, and $75 of that was towing, which i get reimbursed from my insurance company. they put in a new axle shaft, but were able to find a used knuckle, spindle, and bearing assembly, saving me some $$$.

i wish i knew how to fix more things myself, but my dad isnt into cars, so i didnt grow up with any car-knowledge or teaching. i can do small things (brakes, O2 sensors, oil changes) but anything beyond that is up to mechanics. oh well...
