Bolt-on cold ai intake -- Worth it?

Would it be worth getting a bolt-on cold air intake? What kind of performance boosts do you get form those?

It's a great visual mod, as well as sound mod. unless you do some work and get it into the cold air stream (AKA fancy shielding, or fender) no gains. (or very little gains)

Most bolt on "cold air" intakes would go in the fender.

So does the bolt on cold air intake just act like an A/C unit attactched to the bumper blowing cold air at the intake? How would I make it effective?

It is supposed to take colder air from outside the engine bay (and take the restriction off that the stock airbox/saxacone setup has)

Just an open cone in the engine compartment sucks hot air over the engine. The trick is to get cold air into that cone. The stock airbox only allows something like 160cfm? and the car will suck like 420cfm with the filter off. The K&N cone will pass like 650CFM.
