Blown Infinity Kappa perfect?

Ok I have (had) a 12" infinity Kappa perfect sub in a sealed box and it sounded great, but last night while listening to some music, the sub decided to take a dump on me and it shot the voice coil right out the dust cap. I was only running about 350 watts on a 1000 watt sub. What gives? I install this stuff professionally and I'm not even getting this? Help.

You got any pics ?? I've delt with Infinity's at a shop I worked at. I've also sold a few 10" Perfects. Its a very well designed woofer IMO. How long have you owned the speaker ?? Do you have a reciept of purchase ?? I do know that Infinity stands behind their woofers so getting it replaced shouldn't be a problem. Sorry to hear bout the speaker. Hope you get bass soon.

Yea...Perfects are notorious for blowing. You should be able to contact Infinity and have them replace it.

I blew a Perfect 10" running under 300w to it. Just a POS Beta Digital 100 powering it at the time. The 1000w or whatever was a recommended peak, but still.... Harmon Intl. was really good about sending a replacement even though I had purchased it in an ebay auction and not from an authorized Infinity resaler.

Were the gains on your amp set correctly? If they weren't you could have been sending a clipped signal to the subs. That could have cause it to blow.

I spent 10+ years working with high end concert sound equipment and if you over drive any component wether it be the stereo amp or speaker for example 50 watt amp(peak power) trying to run at that 50 watts will blow a speaker rated for 5000 watts. On the other hand if you supply the speaker with a clean signal you could supply the speaker with twice as much power as it is rated and not hurt the speaker.
