bad news. timing jumped and valves bent. what would be better to get new heads with everything in them or to replace the valves?

How is that possible? The V6 SHO is a non-interference design.

Did you have perf cams?

Did you take the heads off? If not ,how did you proceed to diagnose bent valves?

after i got it running it made a loud tap in the head like a valve hitting. what happened was i was rushing and you no the washer type piece that goes on the crank so the belt didnt come off well i for got to put that on and the belt came off alittle and the timing jumped so i pulled it in the garage and put it back in time and made sure i put that piece in and when i started it it would bang every 3 secs it only sounds like one valve bc it hits in the same spot everytime.

The only way you have a bent valve is:

(a) You have an ASSLOAD of carbon in your combustion chamber, in which case you have bigger problems.
(b) You have performance cams.
(c) You have a bad rod bearing. A really bad rod bearing. Like super bad.
(d) There's some other debris running around in that combustion chamber, like a piece of metal, or a gnome or something.

If none of the above apply to you, it is highly unlikely that you bent a valve.

I'm more inclined to think that if you rushed through the cam swap, you have a shim that wasn't fully seated in the bucket, or you didn't measure the lash and the clearance was waaay over, and a shim got thrown. This sucks just as much as a bent valve, because it usually means that your cam is ruined.

dude, listen. There is simply no way in **** that you bent a valve with a 3.2 engine with 3.0 cams. Unless you used shims that, were like, an inch thick. The SHO engine is nowhere near interference. There is a good amount of gap.

The only way you bent a valve is if there is something else in the cylinder, a valve broke and is hanging loose in the cylinder, or you broke a rod/bearing/pin somewhere.

The timing belt can break and the cylinders will not hit the valves.

Also, if it's really only tapping once every three seconds, then it sure as ***** ain't a valve because even at idle any given valve will depress at least, what, 5 times a second?

It sounds like you didn't fully seat a valve shim and it got thrown. You need to at least take the valve covers off and give the cams a very thorough inspection. Maybe rotate the crank pulley with them off so as to observe the cam rotation sequence?

Also, how are you capable of a 3.0 to 3.2 swap but you don't know what/where a DIS/PCM/IRCM is? I'm not diggin' on you for that, I'm just curious...

Also, won't 3.0 heads on a 3.2 block kind of result in bad things happening to the pistons? I thought 3.2 had bored out cylinders... I'm just sayin'.

ok so ill take the valve covers off and check the cams. and its not that i dont no what they are or where they are. i just dont no what the names for them i had someone that did this swap send me his whole journal on how to do the 3.2 swap. im the one that does everything hands on i dont like to read books bc i dont get it when i read it so i just started to pull the motor and do what the guy said. the swap wasnt hard at all. just all this timing stuff i get messed up on. im not saying it is deff a valve bent it just sounds like it bc i heard cars that had bent valves and it sound like that, but ill do what you said and ill check the cams. i put alot of money in this and im not going to give up on it. when it ran fine i could tell the difference in power from the 3.0 and 3.2.

Since you mentioned timing, are you sure you aligned the correct timing marks. The belt comes with marks for both the 3.0L and 3.2L.

As stated before open up the valve covers and double check all the shims and buckets.

If you still can't find anythind do a compresion check this will def tell you if its a bent/broken valve.
