I wanted to make a thread for people to comment their opinions on the multitude of exhaust routes to take with their SHO's to help others (including myself) decide which route to take before sawing off pipe!

Right now mine is muffler deleted and although it does sound nice with a low growl and you can hear the turbo whistle when you let off, it leaves something to be desired. There's no gurgle or rumble when you let off and it has a flatline groan when held at roughly 5-6k rpm. I'm debating also removing the resonator but want to hear others opinions on exhaust options such as:

- straight pipe
- muffler delete only
-resonator delete only
- cat back straight pipe (no muffler or resonator)
- aftermarket brand exhaust
- catless downpipes
-catted performance downpipes
-etc.

You have posted this in 2 very different SHO model/year sections. What year car are you asking about?

My apologies, I realized my mistake after posting the first one. I'm referring to the gen4 3.5L V6 twin turbo ecoboost

Honestly the v6 ecoboost sounds like butt... Best sounding exhaust in my opinion is catless downpipes with the stock system. I've gone through over ten different set ups and they all sound horrendous. These cars just need to be toned down to sound decent. V6 life.. I've just learned to accept my car sounds gross than to continue my search

Yeah it’s a shame but it’s true. I’ve listened to countless combinations hoping to find something that doesn’t sound like garbage but it just doesn’t exist. We bought a V6 ecoboost, not a 5.0. It just doesn’t sound good.

Has anyone ever entertained the idea of just having Highflow Cats installed I place of the factory ones? Would it give you the same performance upgrade as the aftermarket Catted pipes?

Here are a pair of PPE DP's verse my stock DP's. Putting high flow cats on the stock DP's would be a waste of money and time for very minimal gains. You be the judge.

It's hard to make ANY boosted car sound really good. IMHO nothing will ever sound better then a NA engine like the Mustang 5.0 or actually the Audi V10! Speaking of that, I absolutely love Audi and their 4.0 twin turbo V8 in my next car the S6, but even that has a weird exhaust sound to it - albeit a LOT better than a turbo 6, there's still that odd sound. And as much as you tinker with the SHO exhaust there's a great chance you'll enter severe drone territory. I did with my Magnaflow cat-back.
