Well I went and did some digging as to the reason why my stock subwoofer doesnt work. I found the speaker wire from the amp to the sub cut. So i touched the two together and the sub crackled. Then i did some searching and found that a 8'' will fit with some modification. Well I just so happened to have the 8'' bazooka bass tube that I had in my 5.0 before selling it  I took the enclosure out and fitted it to the sub after removing it from the tube and it fits great. Plus the amp worked just fine with it too. I dont crank my music loud and am not looking for a back massage just want to fill in the missing sound from the music.
Now it is intermittent. If running it off of the battery it works just fine. No problem. Sitting at idle is fine too. But it seems as though while driving I have nothing. You can hear it cut in and out and then give up. But if you come to a stoplight after a second it will cut in again.
Any thoughts? Im stumped. I have not found any loose connections. I know this amp is small 25w i think??? So im not trying to make it push the sub too hard but i wonder if the amp is not kicking in and out due to the sub. I think the sub is rated at 100w if i remember right. Any bit of help is appreciated.
I was excited something so simple worked now its back to the drawing board again.

BTW i only have the factory system in place with the tape deck. forgot to mention that. Can i go to the junkyard and get the factory cd player and plug it right in with no problems. Or better yet does anyone know where to get the harness from that bypasses all this So i can put mine cd player in. I wouldnt mind keeping it factory looking but im tired of putting my discman with the tape thing in to listen to a cd :snicker: :laugh_ti:

after a bit more searching around i have found that the black box in between the two amps powers the sub amp. Does anyone know what the output should be since perhaps this could be the culprit?
thanks

there's a black box between the two amps? mine always just had a wiring harness between the two. also, why did you take the sub out of the tube? the tube's tuned perfectly for that sub, and it'd likely sound tons better in that. is the amp getting hot to the touch when it's shutting down?

dont know what happened but i checked to make sure all wires were connected and it works just fine. I took the sub out of the tube to put in the stock box to save weight, cant hook it up to the stock radio anyways, and when i tried installing it in my truck with my cd player I couldnt get any juice anyways. Before that though it sat in the orginal box in the shed. So perhaps this is why it doesnt really work.
Yes there is a black box. If you trace out the wires you will find it. I do have a 94. \

So can i get the standalone cd player and install it in the little storage box under the radio to play cds and tapes and keep the stock appearance?

I have a 93 and I too like the stock look (no it will not win any audio competitions - but who cares) and I have the tape deck and cd player below it option. When I purchased my car the cd would power up but that's all. So I went to a local junk yard and found a couple of tauri (isnt that plural for taurus'?) I simply removed the internals/guts of the cd players and swapped them with mine. My face and buttons were fine. The first one did the same thing but the second and third one both work. So should my cd player hit the fritz then I still have another as back up. These were orignally Sony products purchased and labeled for their cars, but no repair centers carry parts for these decks anymore (none around this part of the country anyway) so it might serve you well to get a couple. The tape decks were all the same units in the SHO's there is a connector on the back on your deckk that just needs a very specific cable to connect your stock cd player (it will not work for aftermarket units).
You can hook up an aftermarket deck, but it can be complex even if you're careful. An aftermarket unit will have its own power supply and therefore amplified signal (some have pre-amp signal outputs). If you send this amplified signal to your stock amps you could blow them up. Plus you would have to tap in to your existing speaker wiring and therefore tapping back into your stock deck. Turn them both on accidentally and bad things will happen.
My suggestion (being as you like the stock look) is to go find a 'donor' cd player (get a couple extra guts) and be sure to obtain the grey square looking connector cable and use a stock cd player.
Good luck and let me know if you need some pictures.
Also addressing why your sub is cutting out - it might be that your sub has a higher omh rating than the amp (watt ratings dont matter too much, besides what is RMS and what is max?). Or vice et versa. If the factory amp is rated at 8 and your sub is rated at 4, then it might be pushing too much and the same would be true in reverse only that your sub isnt pushing enough and the reason at idle it works is perhaps because the load on the electrical system is lower and allows the amp to get just enough out. Or I could be a raving lunatic and not know anything about what I just said. either way stay totally stock or change to ALL aftermarket. the two dont play well together.
