Bad Idle in Neutral???SERIOUS!

Ok,

I've had a check engine code for a few days, i scanned it... it came up as MAF... so i cleaned it and my air filter ( k & n)- i didnt oil it because it could of dirtied it again. i put back on, start up... same dang code..
i took off the maf, and put on my ford 80 mark viii.... came up fine- codes cleared... BUT i dont have an lpm... so maybe it worked...BUT now if i idle in neutral, i have a real rough idle... it will jump from 500 rpms to 1200 or more. then come down to 1k, drop to 500... sometimes so low the oil light will come on but just blink real quick because the idle air control sensor catchs it.
I dunno what to do... the 55mm stock maf is a peice.
I have a long trip saturday...!!!!
any last minute calls on this one?

Did you try to reset the idle? Is the AC on? This sounds about what the AC compressor will do when the idle wasn't programed for it.

No Ac on... just basic idle... nothing on IE: lights.... stereo... no applications!

Yes it really matters, put in the stocker even if you hate it. Its not a bad unit.

how does it change stuff if i have 80 mm mark viii in it? the 55 keeps pullin codes on me and im gettin really mad.

The 80mm unit is not programed in your computer, it sees less air going in as there actually is this makes for a lean mix. Can be very lean and start melting stuff.

Does this only do it when the car hasn't warmed up? When I ran my 80mm MAF without any sort of reprogram, the initial cold idle was very rough.

We have experimented with putting the 80 in several cars with no LPM. Its a no go. We either have had bad idle or stalling after stopping. The car "seemed" faster with it, but it wasn't reliable so back in the 55 went.
