ATX transmission shifting funny

ATX shifting when it likes. My tranny will up and downshift sometimes as it likes. All fluid levels are fine, fluid is good color and clear. Help! shoot shoot

Sounds like the vehicle speed sensor is bad. Does the cruise control work? If not it's the VSS.

the speedo cable is disconnected above the transmission at the first connection point, and I'm unable to re-connect it, but its been that way for months, and the transmission has only been screwed up for a couple weeks. I haven't tried the cruise, but I will, and check the VSS.

The VSS is mounted on top of the trans towards the passenger side. It's what the speedo cable attaches to.
