My tranny finally went out in my 93atx and want to know how difficult it is to remove. My car is still in great shape but I just can'nt do the 2-3k rebuild. Want to remove and install myself if at all possible. Can I buy a decent used tranny anywhere.

You can usually get a used tranny at a junkyard in the $400-$600 range, often with some type of warranty.

Swapping it yourself is not impossible, but you should be very comfortable working on the car. Basically, you have to drop the subframe to R&R the tranny. I would also recommend getting a rebuilt torque converter (~$150). If you've never dropped the subframe before, you should plan on at least 2-3 8-10 hour days for the whole procedure.

Have LOTS of room, and get the car as high as you can and still have it supported SAFELY. (Finding out that your car is NOT supported safely when you are working under it WILL ruin your day!) You will need something to support the engine from the top of the car when you drop the subframe. Invest in a repair manual.
Good Luck
