Do your Auto's have different RPMs at the same speed according to the weather? I was just curious cause on cruise at 70 (on the same road i take to work everyday) soemtimes my car is right above 2500 and sometimes right below. I think it has been as high as 2750 and as low as 2300 or so at the same 70 MPH cruise control. I think that i can attribute it to colder weather my car actually revs a little higher or maybe its that the car is warmer...

Tell me what you guys think about it.

Brian

Mine also does this.I believe that the torque converter does not engage until the car reaches normal tempature.Even then the car needs to be restarted.Thats the way it works on mine at least.

So once the car is warm AND restarted only then does the torque converter start "locking" up? Hmmm... Keep the experience coming, i'm glad mine isnt the only one doing this...

Is this a SHO thing? I'll lock up regardless of engine temperature.

No it will not lock up until your engine gets to a certain temperature then you will see the RPM's drop to normal rate when it does.. I never have to restart the car it will do it automatically after a while on the highway.. Doesnt take that long actually..

Torque control is set to engage when the coolant temp reaches 180 degrees. This can be easily changed, but I don't know how advantageous it would be.

TwiceSHOwn, mine does the same thing. My job is only 3.5 miles away form my home but still need to take the highway to get there and it does not shift into overdrive until it reaches the appropiate temp. which I don't know what it is

.
When I use to work 35 miles away from my house (1 way) the car shifted into overdrive after being on the highway for 15-18 min doing 55mph. It also depend on the temp. too, if it is 40 degrees out it will shift faster into overdrive. If it is 10 degrees out, it won't shift into overdrive for a long time

Ted if you had a bad thermostat does that mean your tranny would never go into lock up mode?

I had a truck that had a bad O2 sensor, and wouldn't go into overdrive until I replaced it. Then after it warmed up, 5-15 minutes, it locked up. The O2 sensor is basicly a tempeture sensor, so I don't know if the SHO reads it from them or the coolant temp sensors.

Probably not.

The computer reads temperature from the ECT only. If the thermostat is faulty or this sensor is faulty, there will be problems.

FYI: The small sensor at the thermostat housing is for the temp gauge only, and is not the ECT sensor.
