Are the manifold to Y-pipe studs on an ATX the same as an MTX? I went to Ford Parts today and was told that the studs for the ATX are obsolete and NLA. :dig: Thats kind of what I expected since most all other parts for the SHO are NLA as well. :cuss: :banghd:

Now I need to find a substitute for the 2 I broke and removed. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I would Fred, but we don't have them around here. I went to VIP and NAPA and they didn't have anything I could use. If push comes to shove, I could use bolts.

Go to Napa. Buy a set of four exhaust studs. And drill and tap the manifold out if you need to.

I would, but I don't want to remove the manifold to drill and tap.......Yet.

But, are they the same from the ATX to MTX? MTX's are still available from Ford for $6.95 ea.. I just don't want to get stuck with a special order that I can't return. Thanks for your input guys. :)

Why are you worried about if they're the same. Just buy the cheap ones from AZ or whatever. They come with the nuts supplied; all you need to do is double nut them and thread them in. Don't forget to buy and use anti-sieze compound. Good luck.

They're both the same size from the ATX to MTX. The only thing different, Ford sells 3 types of studs; one is all threads with a thread skipped for the break in the stud, another with a nut for the split [makes it easy to swap if you snap a stud], and the last with a flared lip to make the split. When I say "split", I am referring to spot on the stud where it meets up on the exhaust manifold when installed.

They are the same thread and length as those used on the Vulcan 3.0
You can drill and tap the broken ones with the manifolds still on the engine, but you will get a face full of metal shavings if you're not carefull. Hint: get 12" long drill bits
