139K. This is very dependent on how you drive it. I don't granny mine around but I don't beat the crap out of it trying to race every rice mobile in town either.

mine currently has 143k on it and is going strong **knocks on wood**. Like naval-avi8r, I don't drive all slow in it, but I don't constantly accelerate as fast as I can and run it up to 7k rpm, either.

Thanks for the input. I have 105k on mine and I was just wondering what to expect as far as tranny life. Currently my tranny is running smooth except for the occasional "clunk" into 2nd in stop and go city traffic. I've put over 10k miles on this thing since I picked it up last November and about 90-95% of my miles are highway (those trips between Ohio and Texas rack up the miles quick). I do run it ******* occasion, but usually I take it easy. Hopefully the tranny will hold out for another 30k, only time will tell...

The ATX's in the '94/'95 SHO's are much stronger than the '93's were. If you don't constantly abuse her and keep the fluid clean and fresh (no more than 30k per change), then you'll be fine.

my 94 ATX, which is for sale, I bought with 130K on it, and put a tranny in it at 135K... I lost overdrive, and it started taking off in random gears... Personally, I dont regret going to the 5spd one bit, quicker, and I dont have to worry about the tranny as much as the ATX.. Right now the ATX has 149K on it, and is running strong with a tranny of 70K in it..

It wouldnt even move now this one seems ok but I sweat when i reach for the N2O switch so I havent squeezed I am thinking about finding a used tranny and having my friends at school go throught it and the swap does anyone know were I could get heavy duty clutches and sprrags for the axods thumbs_u burn_out shoot

What year was the tranny that your dealer put in there? If it wasn't a newer unit with the factory updates, then that could be part of the problem right there.

However, I'm almost willing to bet that most of your problem is heat. A lot of people don't know that, in addition to some internal beefing and updates on the '94's, the '94-'95's also received a secondary tranny cooler from the factory which the '93 is lacking. Considering how much heat our AXOD-variant trannies generate, a cooler is absolutely ESSENTIAL 100% of the time on the SHO (probably one reason that Ford added them to the '94's).

If you wanted to, you could add an Autometer pr similar temp gauge to your ATX and see what kind of temperatures you're fluid is seeing. If it's over 225F, then you're running too hot. Aside from a potential rebuild, I'd also suggest a nice 19k-24k tranny cooler first to see if that helps your shifting and possible temperature problems. B&M, Hayden, and Ford Motorsports are some good brands to look at for coolers, or, if you just want the '94/'95 factory cooler, check a junkyard and pull one off a wrecked '94/'95 ATX. There's gotta be hordes of them out there.

All the ATX's have the "extra" trans coolers on them, Including the 93's. Both of mine have them and all of them i have seen do also.

I don't have a '94, but since I'm a Cincy Bearcat also, I'll respond.

My '93 finally bit the dust at 132k miles a few years back. Had it rebuilt to the latest specs and had a Transgo installed, and I've put almost 30k trouble-free miles on it.

I don't know why people say the '94-'95 is a stronger tranny than the '93. I've seen many '94's go out with less mileage than mine (and mine was driven pretty hard) and seen some '93's last into the 140k mile range.

They may be different, but they're not necessarily any better!

The computer (D4U1 vs. H3Z) is a totally different story!

That's because the '94-'95 ATX's are stronger than the '93's. True, the computer definitely helped sort out some issues that people experienced with the H3Z variant PCM's, but it's a known fact that Ford upgraded the ATX's in '94, partly due to the fact that warranty work on the '93's was going to cost them a pretty penny.

Bottom line, it's all about maintenance. If a '93 is well-maintained but a '94 is not, then yeah, the '93 will very likely outlast a '94. And that's not to say that there won't be a bad '94-'95 on rare occasion out there. It is true that the '94-'95's are stronger, however, and will hold up better than your average '93 will. If nothing else, all the '93 owners I've seen on here have been proof of that. :)

Ah, that would be my bad. I was assuming that the '93's did not receive the secondary cooler from the factory, namely because Jeremy's '93 (which has had many tranny troubles) did not have one when he bought it (that I'm aware of). I haven't seen any other '93 ATX's in person, so I wasn't 100% of my statement. Thanks for the correction.
