Parting mine out that makes 8 . These trannies and engines are roughly 2times what they used to be in price . If you have a nice clean one put a Zex kit on and let it be . You can boost it, eat trannies and tires at an astounding rate but why? Even if you can outrun a Vette at hwy speed who cares? It's a POS Taurus and the Vette owner won't have his on jack stands 6mos. at a time looking for another trannie that won't last. I've had a boosted SHO for years . It's not worth it at all . My .02

Every time I try to give a Corvette a run, they never play. Just last week I was next to a C6 on the freeway and he no play. :(

I feel the opposite. I recognized the limitations of the car long ago and with what it can do, I love how well it does it. *knocks on wood*... I'm still on my original transmission, however, I did have Gary Morrell work it over during the engine build. Tires... I would still be on the original set of tires I put on when I boosted my car in 2005 if I hadn't damaged one of them and replaced both fronts.

I've got another car with traction and good power, but it's a totally different type of car. I love coming back to getting in the SHO and running it through the gears. Most people around here would rather me bring my SHO to a car show over the STi.

I can see that yours is very nice and garaged most of the time .
I drive the **** out of everything I have .
They're just as cool and way more reliable stock and clean . I would be willing to bet you could pull the sc and people would still like yours . Mines a pile of nothing but go, and I love it .
If I could do it over I'd of kept it stock and got another car to go "fast".
Again just an aholes opinion.

I'm very confused as to why a thread was started about making a 'community build' and your main focus is the motor, especially when referring to better 1/4 mile times? smh...

If you want to get down the track fast you should spend minimal time thinking about the motor...We already know what works best. Large turbo and supporting mods to fuel system, exhaust, clutch, etc...

Soooo, your focus needs to be on traction and getting the best launch...These motors can produce far more than what the platform likes to handle.

I honesty wish I woudl have started with a different platform, for what I spent I'd have a 11 second car.

But it is what it is, I love my sho but it is what it is, a highway killer. Not a redlight to redlight racer and I have come to understand this.

...And keeping it once you're already moving. The higher power cars have a hard time keeping traction even after moving.

Since I couldn't bring myself to part with my SHO, I just bought a car that will do 11's for LESS than I have put into my SHO, including the purchase price.

Should have been the first response to my post. I guess when i posted this topic it just didnt come out very well. Yes, i am asking for help but i also wanted to just make it a little bit easier for those other noobs including myself to understand where to go IF you start modifying an SHO.

It just comes down to you want some magic easy button of getting what you want and dont want to educate yourself and learn anything in the process. Your not the first person to come here and start a thread just like this one.

Heres a good start on turbo and general forced induction
http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=81944

You could go get a dry zex kit ,Walbro 155lph fuel pump ,Autolite 3923's copper plugs and see how you do with the extra power. Its also much cheaper then turbo/super-charging the car.

perfect. what ive gotten is its not worth it to rebuild the motor even if ive beaten the **** out of it, gone through a trans and 2 clutches (1 failed to differential failure)

so basically its going the spray route. thanks

It is worth it to rebuild the motor if it is worth it to you. It all comes down to money vs. want/need.

If you have gone through 2 clutches in a relatively fast period of time you may need to alter your driving habits.

I recommend that you ditch the spray and go the turbo route. It takes work, but it is well worth it. It can be very reliable too.

I don't think that he has the experience yet to build a turbo kit. It takes a good bit of work to research, build, maintain, modify a boosted Taurus. Get familiar with the basic workings of the car/engine platform before you dive into trying to turbo it.

Is the car completely stock now ? How are the brakes & suspension ? my opinion get dirty working on the car getting them up to par (11.6 front brakes, Y pipe , check LCA's, wheel bearings, tie rods struts/springs ). Take the time to research which direction you want to go while you learn about the car and get it ready for extra powaz. You will thank yourself in the end.
