Are O2 sensors universal or vehicle specific?

Exactly that, are oxygen sensors universal? or are they like MAF sensor that are pretty much vehicle specific? The reason I ask is because It's time to do the O2 sensors on my car, but I have a few new ones left over from my old taurus vulcan.

O2 sensors are universal in their function, but I believe they come in different size threads. Sense you have the O2s laying around I would crawl under the front of your car and pull the front O2 sensor and compare, if the threads are the same, you are good to go. Should take 5 minutes to pull off the front bank.

Not all Oxygen Sensors are alike. Some of them use a three wire pick up while other use a two wire pickup. Mtx shos use 2 wires, while ATX shos use 3.

Don't know about yours but I know for a fact that 91' through 95's have the three wire (heated) O2 sensors.

They are not all the same in their resistence and electrical switching behavior. The threads are quite universal as are the hex nut dimensions. Your 3.0L will need a pair of the Bosch 13942 sensors with 8.5" leads available at AutoZone for $38.99. They are easy to access on the 3.0L and you can use a Crescent wrench to remove and replace them. The O2 sensor socket makes it easier, but it's optional.

Thanks everyone, just wanted to make sure before I go out and spend money on SHO specific ones. I have some stuff to do on the car this weekend, so I'll get to them then.

Try callingthe local dealer to see if they have the same part #. I would think that they would use the same part.
