I'm curious if anyone has run the AMSOIL Coolant, or another Propylene Glycol based coolant in a SHO. I looked around but haven't seen any feedback on it, at least as of yet.

The '94 blew a Throttle Body Heater Hose earlier, and there is coolant spraying everywhere. I tire greatly of having to make sure I don't get the toxic stuff all over everything and I'm especially curious how the PG stuff works since in addition to being less/non toxic (important if there are pets around) it also has a much longer service life! The only downside is the AMSOIL is 2.5x the price, but when considering the service life, even if some leaks, it could be worse... Plus I'm not sure if any other brands may have a better price.

If recommended I'd appreciate suggestions on where to find it (hopefully at a good price!)

Thanks!

As an addition - Prestone makes "LowTox" PG coolant that is the same price as regular EG coolant. It looks like -26F vs -38F or so is the slight difference in freeze temp. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone running this stuff. I may try flushing the old EG out when spring comes and refilling with this either way. It meets all the corrosion and performance standards of EG coolant.

I use a 50/50 mix of the green stuff. I then add a bottle of Red Line Water Wetter. I do this to every vehicle in the family.

I use Prestone Low-Tox. Didn't get it for any reason other than it is less harmful to humans/pets (Johnny! Stop drinking that green water right this instant!).

As for performance, it's the only one I've ever used so I don't know how useful that information is. As long as it doesn't rot out my coolant system I think I'm ahead.

You can't mix orange and green coolant, it turns to mud. There are some orange ones that say they're compatible I think, but I'd just stick to green(Ethylene).

For cars built 1997 and before, Ford does not recommend using Propylene-Glycol based coolants. The old TSB was 94-10-08, it was updated 96-16-04 last I can tell to include 1997 year vehicles.

FWIW, non-aqueous PG coolants are really better suited to engines that use reverse flow, non-pressurized cooling systems. The SHO motor is neither...
