My alternator is shot, and was replaced by the previous owner already back in 03. Its making some stupid noises and all the electronics plulsate. Im going to go to napa and get a free replacement and hopefully install it.

Scale of 1 to 10.. Id guess a 2, but Id like to hear someone else who has done this rate it.

95 mtx, id rate at about solid 2 maybe 3. Remove the battery + tray, loosen tentioner and remove alternator 3 bolts, 2 in front, and 1 on the back, Real close to that. I removed the support for the intake to get at the back bolt.

It's not too hard; I replaced my last one in a Sam's Club parking lot with only the tools I had in my trunk. If I remember right, one of the bolts was a real pain to get out, but other than that it was pretty easy.

On a 1-10 scale, putting in a new alternator is like a -5... 2 or 3 long mounting bolts and an electrical connector... First remove your belt by torquing the belt tensioner towards the front of the car. Very simple..

I ended up having to take the coolent resovoir out (not unhooked, just unbolted and moved out of the way) to get at the last bolt. I suppose it depends on which tools you have at your disposal.

regard, alan
