Hey everyone, sad to say my PTU is on its last leg. After looking around I was only able to find a new replacement from dorman products #600-239 for my 2015 SHO. The issue is it's a oem with no upgraded aluminum heat shield or drain and fill plugs like product #600-234xd. I contacted dorman and they said they don't expect an upgrade for turbocharged vehicles for another 12-18months. Don't really want to spend all that time and money for something that will have the same problems down the road if I don't have to. The local Ford dealer quoted me $3400. Does anyone recommend an alternative PTU?

I think they told me around me $1300-$1400 just for the part. I can buy the exact same one for under $800 brand new

Really? I didn't see anything under 1k new. If you can get a new one for $800 I'd do that. I saw used ones and aftermarket for that much.

If you are around for a few years come back with a review with plenty of miles on it ...or if something happens before that. Going to have to start compiling aftermarket part performance and durability going forward since this platform is dead and factory parts will dry up.

I most certainly will, hoping this will help others. This new one comes with a 3yr warranty, so far the only issue is it's on backorder. They said up to 3wks before I receive it. Local shop is installing for me, they quoted it being a 6hr job

About a month ago I bought an updated Ford unit from Tasca for my 2013 MKS. It was in stock and arrived quickly and fit perfectly. The description claims to have some updates to the design, but I don't know what they are. There was no drain plug, and that would seem like a no brainer update.

You can find OEM PTU under a 1,000 still but you have to really search for them. Sound like you got a non PP PTU, but it will have a fill plug on passenger side of PTU, and with some research, you can make your own drain plug. And is it on it's last leg for seals,.or has oil sludged up in it? Your gears might be good and it just needs taken apart, cleaned, new seals, drain plug install, and be good to go. My interceptor has 160,000 miles on original PTU, all I did at 100,000 miles was open case cleaned out all sludge, new seals, filled her up and went. There pretty stout, unless oil has never been changed. Good luck to you.

Im looking at the 600-234xd ptu for my sho. I emailed Dorman asking if it works on 3.5 ecoboost. No response yet. All the sites just list naturally aspirated. Whats the difference between the awd se taurus and non pp sho ptu? Id like to get this upgraded 234xd because why would i spend more on another time bomb. Ford said they fixed them and added a drain plug. I ordered one, went to Ford to pick it up. Opened it up and it was the same as my 2015 one and i refused to pay. When i was told they were updated.
I dont mind if i have to tap it for a drain plug but thats not the point. I shouldnt have to.
They did get back to me now.
Same as raybesto clutch discs response, not planning to release at this time.

Hey bro so long story short I went through what you’re going through and here is what I can tell you. Ford is a joke and I do mean all of them want crazy money for part and labor. I did it in my driveway nightly after work and took me about 3 nights to put new one in. I bought the doorman one off of Amazon. The major difference in the PTUs is, the one ford had an extended hose for the fill plug on top where the doorman does not. It doesn’t matter because once installed accessing it is a comical joke. They both had a drain plug on passenger side of ptu but it’s not on the bottom it’s on the left side an inch up or so. Also the major difference was doorman’s ptu came with the cooler to hook my old cooling lines up to it where the one ford was trying to sell me did not. They told me to cap off lines or remove them as they were no longer needed. I knew that was a load of s*** with my experience from my first one. I have now driven my car for over a year from Vegas to FL and it has had only one issue. The passenger side axel seals are trash in the doorman one. The internal seal that keeps trans fluid from leaking out is very flimsy and **** poor. So with the doorman before install I recommend pulling the seals and installing the ford seals they sell as a kit with this long yellow tool. When u take doorman seals out u will see the difference immediately. Fords seals are much more firm and metal wrapped with a plastic/rubber, where doorman’s are straight plastic and rubber. Hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to reach out.
