Air filter question

I currently have a K&N cone filter on my 98. My question is this: Is there a horsepower gain with the cone filter and if so, is it any different than the gain, if any, one would get using a K&N panel filter? I ask this because I am constantly disconnecting the battery to reset the SES light. The light goes out for a couple of days then comes back on again. I have neither the skill, inclination, nor the intestinal fortitude to route the cone filter and sensor into the wheel well where it belongs. Thanks for the help!

I had the same issue with mine right after the install of my cone filter. I however have a scanner, and checked the code before I just cleared it. I took out my MAF and cleaned it with brake cleaner. The filiment had oil on it from the filter. Once I got it off, all problems were solved. Damn K&N oil headbang . Good Luck

It is a Ford! That is why the SES ligh comes on. They might as well have it on from the factory. I love my car, but every Ford that I have owned, or known, have had that light on. You fart wrong in a Ford and the light will come on...josh thumb

What's the code that is being set? Where is the IAT sensor mounted? If the cone is in the engine compartment you probably are better off with the panel filter.

Hey now, don't be dissing Ford when all you've driven are cars. I agree the Taurus throws a P0411 code once a week, but my dad's Explorer has never once thrown an engine code and it's at 104,000 miles last I checked. The trucks ain't built like the cars. wink
