Anyone know how to disable the Adaptive Cruise Control feature on a 2010 SHO? I HATE it!

Per the OM:

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC) (IF EQUIPPED)
Adaptive cruise control is much like speed control, only this system is
designed to automatically adjust your speed to maintain a proper
distance between you and the vehicle in front of you in the same lane.
The driver can select from one of three GAP settings, the controls are
located on the steering wheel.
At startup, the system sets the gap
to the last selected setting. Once
activated, the driver can deactivate
the system at any time by either
pressing the brake pedal or pressing
the steering wheel ON/OFF control. In addition, the driver can
temporarily increase the vehicle speed above the current speed by
manually pressing on the accelerator pedal.

Don't know if you can "permanently" disable this feature, maybe through Ford IDS?

Maybe this recent discussion can help:

SHOdded, is right, it cannot be disabled.
It can be nice, but, with the way folks drive on the interstate, coming over in your lane with 3 feet to spare, ACC will freak out and stomp the brakes.

It may be possible to do it through IDS. I know on the newer ones you can tell it if it has ACC or normal cruise.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I find it odd to not have the option of disabling, but will check out the IDS option. The "on/off" steering wheel button just enables/disables cruise control.

another reason to buy a MKS - in the Lincoln you can disable the adaptive cruise through the left dash screen, and you have many choices of the 'range' distance where it kicks in.

I like the ACC, it helps keep my blood pressure down on my daily 80 mile round trip commute, but I.must.resist.the.urge.to.override.

I do wish it was smarter and would not slam on the brakes when some bonehead jumps in front of you. The gap that it maintains is nice, but most of the other drivers out there seem to view it as an invitation to cut in front of you. I really hate that that. :cuss: (See note about blood pressure).

I also wish that it would not shut off in heavy rain or snow but go into "normal" mode. But other than that, it's great and I do like it!

how do you know if your car is equipped with it unless you just wait for some bonehead to jump out in front of you? I did notice tonight that it looks like there's some sort of camera behind my rear view mirror... is that it?

The adaptive cruise sensor is in the lower grill at the front of the car, offset to the driver's side. If your lower grill does not look symmetric, your car has either hit something or it has the Adaptive Cruise Control.

The camera behind the rearview mirror is for the auto highbeams, and the darker colored square behind the rearview mirror is for the rain sense wipers.

There are a couple of obvious clues to determine if your car has ACC. SHOrod alluded to one of them, the asymmetrical lower grille, the other is the cruise on/off button itself on the steering wheel. Pressing it on the left side (On/Off) turns the cruise on and off. Once the cruise is set, indicated by a green icon in the left bezel, pressing the right side of the button (-----) changes the following distance which you will see in the center display as one, three or five dashed lines, which I think of as car lengths. Cars without ACC will not have the dashes on the right side of the cruise On/Off button. Hope that was helpful.

I’m new here and still figuring everything out. I am looking for a new front bumper with ACC because I broke mine. I can’t find anywhere that sells that part. Am I screwed?

You will probably get better responses by starting a new post instead of asking about parts in a 6 year old thread that was not looking for bumpers.
