I was driving down the road the other day and the a/c went completely off (EATC blank) and the battery light came on. The EATC lit up again but was blowing outside temp air. Found out that the connection to the back of the alternator had come apart (wire broke from ring connector). Replaced alternator. Couldn't get the nut off to remove the broken ring connector so Advance did a warranty exchange. They checked / charged the batter and it was good. They didn't have the right size connector so I improvised a lead top post battery terminal connector as a temporary fix. Taped everything up really well so nothing touched and was off and running. Drove about 1000 miles and suddenly the same symptoms. I looked and the lead had melted from the stud on the back of the alternator and the wire was just laying there. Fortunately I was in front of Lowe's when it cratered this time. I put a steel connector on and merrily went on my way. I was headed home from work Tuesday (about 200 - 300 miles later) and the same symptoms. Had the alternator bench tested last night at Advance and it tested Ok. The ABS light has been on for about a month. It blinks when first started and then stays on solid. I have the blink code written down but don't have it with me.
A couple paths I'm thinking, neither of which will be fun. Short to ground somewhere or a broken wire that carries a lot of current throughout the car.
Any other ideas that I should check out?
Thanks!
