Hello,
I've been dealing with cold temps lately (10-20F) and have a concern to address. It seems my A/C compressor runs (when commanded on) reguardless of ambient temps. I was under the assumption its not suppose to turn on unless warmer weather is present. This is probably not very good for the compressor also. The outside temp is accurate but unsure if that has ties with clutch operation. So I am looking for some help on correct operation of the system as I don't have the necessary documentation. Thanks

half-way there, I think.
Sounds like it is operating correctly. If you have the hvac head unit in the a/c position or any of the defrost modes the compressor will run. It's not only for cooling the air, but for dehumidifing it as well.

The compressor will always run on defrost or def\floor regardless of the temp selected or the temp outside. With the air working it will do a much better job of defogging the windows. The airconditioning kind of dehumidifies the air inside the car.

The manual says the compressor isn't supposed to come on under 55 degrees outside (since humidity generally isn't much of a concern that cold), but I've noticed mine comes on too.

There is a fairly simple solution; unplug the A/C Clutch cycling switch on top of the dryer. I guarantee the compressor won't engage after that. Just make sure to remember to plug it back in next summer!

I would leave it as is. It sounds like it's working properly unless it's on all the time.

I believe I read somewhere that's it's a good idea to run the A/C in the winter also because they tend to need the A/C recharged if they don't. I tried looking for where I read this but cannot find it... so I may be wrong here.
