I have a 1999 Taurus SHO with 98k mikes throwing a P1744 code intermittently. I read through the forums and will definitely try a flush and have the solenoid checked. In the event that I need to replace the Torque Converter does anyone know of a shop in NC that I should bring this to?

Also, what’s a good cooler to add to the transmission system?

I can't help with shops, but my experience with this code has always led to the TCC solenoid needing to be replaced. Its not a hard job, just takes some time and will require the replacement of some of the fluids, so its best to go that direction first.

Do you notice studdering when travelling at 45mph while light on the throttle? Does the problem stop if you press the overdrive cancel button on the shifter? Do you have any drivability problems?

Gotcha, I picked up that part and will have a local guy that's familiar with this car replace that and the fluids.

No stuttering at any speeds, when using cruise control at highway speeds the rpms can fluctuate 100 rpms or so higher than what they are supposed to be. I haven't tested the OD off button for that but it is functional. No drivability issues to date, the AC works at random sometimes...but I'm going to get it recharged.
