So a 2000 Duratec powered Sable just joined my fleet, marking the first car in 10 years I've bought without a SHO badge on it.

There's a problem, though.....

The cars are similar in weight, size, etc....but the lil 200hp 6 runs significantly stronger than the V8. It may have been like this for a while, but the only thing I could compare it to is a 3.2 MTX car. It wasn't until I felt how much more sprightly the V6 was that I figured there might be a problem.

To me, it almost feels.....choked. like the secondaries aren't open (butterflies are removed) or the airbox has been stuffed with wet socks (month old paper filter). A rough stopwatch check shows the duratec to be almost a full second faster to 60mph....even accounting for the inevitable user error, thats a significant margin, and I really don't think It's some sort of freak Sable.

Where should I start lookin to regain the mighty 207's lost glory? Clogged cats, perhaps? Squirrel in the plenum?

I already have. I had the plenum off last week to change a rear coil. The only restriction on the intake side is the manifold itself.

It struggles to accelerate at this point....It's definitely down on power, big time. I'm gonna chop off the cats and see if that helps. I'm not worried about a SES light....mine hasn't worked since I owned the car. The only code is for an 02 sensor, and It's been there for years.

Remove cats and extend the harness then move the rear o2 back about 2 feet.

I'll agree, cats are prolly the issue.
