Apparently there's a tiny diode inside the heater blend door actuator that will break if it's plugged in before installed... He swears by this... I'll give him one more shot.

Diodes are not a wear item that will just break. Unless he plugged the blend door actuator to a different power source that will produce more than the correct voltage. Plugging them in will never ever break them. Ever

You sir are being told a tall tail. Your Tech is doing something wrong and is telling you B.S. to save his Butt and needs to be replaced.

He showed me a temporary fix by unplugging a connection under the glove box to keep it in heat or cooling. I believe I plugged it back in over the summer (I looked and I don't see any plugs unattached now),

Thanks!

The plug isn't under the glovebox, it's behind it. You would of had to drop the glovebox by pinching some plastic rubbery tabs to see it. There's a picture of it on the 32nd page of the link that I posted above. The actuator is circled in red, to the right of it you'll see three connectors. I believe it's the top plug. I would make sure they are both plugged in before testing the actuator. Hopefully this will solve your problem.

The wear item on the actuator is a plastic toy like gear. I still have my actuator with the broken gear, you're welcome to it if you want it. I'm in S.E. DC about 10 min from the capitol. If yours is indeed broken it'll be easy as pie to switch out the broken gear in mine for the gear in yours to make it a working unit again.

Like others have said, that whole diode thing doesn't sound right. It sounds to me like he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Hmm, thanks for all the great information, everyone!

I had already ordered another BDA, so I'll give this guy 1 more shot before I can him and either replace it myself or take it to a real mechanic.

Again, your posts are very much appreciated!
