Hey guys I’m new to the forum I just turned 20, I have eyes on a 1994 Taurus Sho atx, and I believe I can get it at a fairly good price it seems in decent condition. But I would want to save through the winter and swap it to a 5speed manual what do I need to do to do this? An atx-mtx conversion. Also is it true the 94 shos engine changed the intake system and only revved to 6k instead of 7200k is there a way to bring it back to how it was in 89-93? Thank you for reading if you do

Intake is same throughout the 89-95 models, although California cars have an additional emissions system attached. As far as I know, redline has not changed. If it had, it is because of the accessories, and you can get under drive pullies to fix that issue.

I'm not certain how many vehicles are around these days, but since you want a manual and your interest is in the earlier models, have you looked for a stick in those years instead of conversion?

Taurus are pretty rare around me I think at least the sho I only other one I found was an 89mtx sho 2.5 hours away. R u saying the conversion isn’t really worth the trouble then? Is the car still worth it I still love it but I do want a manual more than anything but this car is special imo

So you're 20. Do you have the time, skills, and financial resources to do this? It's alot of work and potentially cost. I'm all about learning with your hands but you need to be able to function with a car that doesn't run for a good while and many parts may be hard to find while going to school/work/etc.

You will need an entire MTX parts car. It will require the MTX subframe, trans, mounts, axles, accessories, harnesses, PCM, shifter, manifolds, Y pipe, etc, etc....

Pretty much nothing will be interchangeable.

Is there a different manual transmission that is compatable? I would want to learn the skills hopefully but I do think I have the resources around me to get it done. And I would still be able to make it to work without this car I have other transportation but those vehicles I don’t own, this one I would and I want it to be a daily and working good I would be fine with the auto for a while as long as I know a conversion is possible. But if I’m more worried about auto vs manual should I just go with a different car all together worry about something more fun later.
Ik all this talk is like a shot in the dark but I dont see why I couldn’t make something like this work with time money and research I’m also thinking about the long run like ik I can’t do everything overnight I would save over some time for the manual transmission if that’s possible

if you can buy an MTX car that was owned by an enthusiast, then you can enjoy it right away. You can see if this car is still available. Did you look through the cars in the Trader section of this forum. The car was still for sale this past May

So ehm, I have that manual parts car, is it really as easy as dropping the subframe (engine, trans, and exhaust still attached) and putting it into my automatic??

I didn't realize the subframe was different, I just thought the mounts were different. Yikes.

No, the other parts are in the quoted post you used. There are other ways to do it but that is the one I am familiar with. Maybe rubydist did one with a different process. I'm pretty sure he talks about programming the atx computer vs swapping pcm and harness from donor mtx car. I think. Too many posts to have great recall these days.

I wouldn't mess with that weak atx transmission. You got a performance sedan that was haphazardly designed to barely handle the hp/torque it came with. These cars are not stout enough that you can drive it like you stole it, and still be a reliable vehicle --especially as old as everything is. I was the same when I got into these when I was young. That stuff about bankrupted me and I was paying off the debt I accumulated on that car long after it was ragged out and not worth dumping endless money into. If this is your only car, don't beat on it. You'll have cash outflow, with a car on blocks that won't go. been there done that.

If you have good money, time, and access to other vehicles on a daily basis then that's a different situation.

This is a depends answer. I would not recommend these cars for a daily if you need a dependable ride. It's 30 yrs old. If you like wrenching on cars and are pretty good at it and you have a second car to use when it's down, then yeah that's doable. I would say a 30 yr old car should, in general, not be considered a dependable daily driver. I would recommend something boring that has a ton of replacement parts available and/or salvage cars around to scavenge from. Alot of this older stuff got crushed with Obama's cash for clunkers program long ago. This is smaller run niche vehicle vs say a mustang -- which is plenty fun and has alot more parts available.
