My '94 has been sitting in my dad's shop for the past year only being driven out to make room for working on other vehicles. The last time it was constantly driven was the summer to 2018. At the end of the summer, I had a partial clutch failure at the track, so in the shop it went. At the time there were no ignition issues, at some point while in storage or just prior to, the water pump began to leak. Later on, it wouldn't start. There was no spark but the RPMs were displayed on the tach while cranking, 600-700 rpms. After a quick swap of the camshaft position sensor, just to rule it out quickly, my dad did a front 60k on it to replace the failed water pump, instal a new timing belt and tensioner, and replace the crankshaft position sensor with one that came from a different spare engine that was working when it was removed. After putting it all back together, there is still no spark. I'll get the codes, but at this time, all I can think of for potential culprits, are the coil pack and DIS module. Any other thoughts?

The engine and ignition is mostly stock other than an under drive pulley, aftermarket y-pipe, and a 3.2 swap. The 3.2 swap was done about 45k ago with new top, front and bottom 60k maintenance. The plugs were replaced about 5k ago and the wires were new with the swap. The fuel pump comes on when the ignition is cycled on.

You have to first determine if there is no spark, by using a plug grounded to your car that can be seen.

Any codes, hidden or displayed?

Any chance the shutter wheel spacing is wrong on your crank position sensor?

Your coil pack and DIS unit are OK. The only chance of problems with the DIS would be if you removed it and the ground has not been re-established.

Grounded plug show no spark. The shutter wheel gap was carefully set at .030 when the position sensor was replaced. Still need to check hidden codes (no displayed codes).

If the 60K would have hopefully fixed the issue, when you crank the engine, does it sound like it is trying to turn over or does it just spin? I have seen a timing belt installed backward during a front 60K and the engine was just spinning

The belt is installed with the marks aligning with the cams, which were not moved and were marked before the old belt was removed. The motor cranks normally, the same as it always has, but no indication of even partial firing (as if one or more cylinders are working).

I have a feeling it's the CPS. 1. CPS replaced while WP was still leaking. 2. WP replaced and used CPS installed from a working engine.

It's either that or the DIS module itself. I assume there's plenty of heat sink grease on the back. Run the DIS tests you will find here. No need to create an account:

94shodriver's dad here-- first off, thanks for all your help everybody. What a great group to have around.
Now for true confessions, feeling stupid. Apparently I either had a faulty plug or ground when I first started this this adventure. Since nothing ignition wise seemed to make any difference, I decided to go back to ground zero. Rather than do the plug removal/check thing again I thought it would be easier to try some starting fluid just for the **** of it. Vroom. Now to go down that trail, since I can hear the fuel pump hum we'll have to chase it from there.
Once again, thanks.
