214 - Error in Cylinder ID (CID) circuit or signal - Ignition Systems

crank sensor might be going bad. How does the car run? any stalling issues, or coolant leaks?

any advice on a trouble code for a 93 3.2, code 214?:thankyou:

cylinder identification circuit failure. could be cam or crank sensor or ignition module. worse case pcm but i doubt it. What's the history on the car? Any one of those replaced recently so you can eliminate one of the three.

No coolant leaks, stalled 3 times at idle, and tach stopped for about 5 minutes while driving. Thanks

start out with the easy stuff, check the ground strap on the surge tank that grounds the DIS module... maybe take it off, clean the connection. See if that helps.

Try the cam sensor it's easy and i'm pretty sure it's the the cheapest.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if the tach is cutting out isn't it less likely to be the cam sensor? If it was running rough and stalling but the tach operated fine, I would lean towards cam sensor.

Tach runs off of a signal to the DIS from the crank sensor, so if the tach stops working + intermittent stalling its either the DIS or Crank sensor

When i first replied to his post all he wrote was code 214. Anyways as far as I know a bad cam sensor will also cause the tach to drop and let the car run for a few before it dies but hey I could be wrong.

Here's a thread pertaining to the above. Read post #7.

The OP has an intermittent CAM SENSOR, not the crank sensor.

You can unplug the cam sensor completely and, if the engine starts (a one of three chance), the engine will run perfectly normally for that cycle with the exception of no tach and a CEL.

If the crank sensor fails, the engine will not run at all.

I replaced the cam sensor and the car idles strange. The diagnostics reader shows cylinder 6 is not firing right, could that be plug wires or just the coil pack? Anyone know where to get a timing belt tensioner for the 3.2 atx? No dealers carry the part. THANKS!
