Definitely how I learned. Take it apart, put it back together, if it doesn't work right, take it back apart, because it's more than likely something you did or didn't do.

Now it just takes me twice as long, because the body isn't willing lol.

Awesome you finally got to crack it off! You have officially made it to the fun part. I know there’s still a ton to do but it’s close enough now that I can say, remember when you were frustrated with your car in a million pieces trying to figure out turbo placement? Well, now you’re just a guy who has this done!
Congrats brother

So something strange using Forscan. I downloaded it late last week and was expecting a prompt or something to pay? Was able to just open it up like it was ready to use and assumed it was the free 2 month period? I had bought a brand new laptop to use for tuning and data logging my truck and SHO. I was always taking my laptop with my QuickBooks stuff and I just wanted a dedicated laptop just for fun (no P O R N) lol! Just car stuff, genuinely. I bought myself the wireless OBDlink MX+ Bluetooth scanner back in 2022. I let my son use it to check a code and when he learned it could display some gauges (boost) I never got it back. I think bc I’ve “borrowed” things from my Dad and never gave them back, well, knowing I did that to my Dad….I asked for it back multiple different times but didn’t try too hard to get it back. Anyway, I recently bought the OBDlink EX for Forscan that you directly connect to your computer. To use with my dedicated tuning laptop.

I watched a short YT video. Looks stupid easy. So I do everything and get right into it except forscan says my connection is subpar…and I’m thinking really? The OBDlink EX isn’t sufficient??? Asks if I wanted to update the connection rate…not in the YT video but yeah sure?!? I reset the tables for the transmission. Then I go to update the valvebody and solenoid assembly and it says I need the extended license. So I’m kind of annoyed bc how do I even pay? Take my money I don’t care. So I’m googling that and I have to request it and wait to get approved and I’m like….wth. I was also interested in the abs bleed function so I went to get back into Forscan and decided to see if (although I am administrator) to run it open as administrator bc I have to do that with the VF tuner software. So I’m back in again and I keep getting told right off the bat that the connection (speed?) or connection setting is subpar and that I can change it in settings. All of this is of course not in the YT video I watched. So I’m in connection settings and I choose auto-connect or whatever and I’m so confused that it’s displaying my connection as Bluetooth and says it’s connected to Andrew’s phone. Why is it connected to my phone it’s directly connected to the computer? With a cord in the OBDII. It’s got WIFI??? So I was trying to change the connection type and pressed something to where my computer tells me it’s performed an operation incorrectly and bricks my new laptop. Wtf!?!?!? Now I need to get some magical Microsoft recovery key code ID, I’m instructed to buy a 32g flash drive and recover the computer that way….WTF!!! New computer rendered itself literally useless. It failed at its sole purpose. Did I accomplish something unheard of? Brad never heard of it.

So couldn’t program the new trans yet. Had to keep it moving instead of sit there mad AH. I ran my switch panel controller harness through the firewall and had decided on a place to put it next to the shifter in a cup holder with a half working flip cover, and just checking things I found that I was unable to get into M (manual) mode 10-12 model year setup, and I thought damn…that cord probably in the way. Removed the cord and still nope. My shift lever maybe on top of the trans need adjustment? Sure enough it was. Found M. Nice. Ran the cord back and checked again. Cool. Not in the way. Continued to decide on how to mount it. Found my cut-off wheel to cut a flat piece of 6062 sheet left over scrap from the spare tire delete panel. Couldn’t find my tool to loosen to bc it had a sand disc on it. Looked like a bomb of tools went off with having my cousin Owen over. So was like…ok, cleaning up. Found it later. I cut this, placed in the car, decided on 2 rivets to hold it. Marked with a marker. Drilled those out in the car also through the plastic. Installed the threaded studs on the back of the controller. Drilled out a center hole for the wire. Took some touch up paint and loaded the end of the studs with black paint, placed the controller down where I wanted it and the paint left my drill holes marked perfectly. Drilled it out, cleaned it up. Wrapped it in Black metallic (ghost) vinyl. Installed the controller on it and threaded the nuts. Put in the car and placed my rivets in the premade holes, done! So on the controller IMG 2298
That’s how I used the ECU Master stickers. Since I’m manually starting the fuel pump not doing remote start and that means I can’t do rise on start with the air suspension, out of the car anyway so wanted to use up another button and just used the controller as ignition source to give my air management power. The best sticker I could find for that was the stick figure axle with wheels, looks like would be used for activating a differential. Rather than a quick cruise and then get the car parts sorted just going to continue sorting it out and the less I need to do the better when I start driving it. Also took apart my headlight side lense covers from the original housings, each one had a screw missing (I knew they weren’t 100%). I added their missing screws and also added blue Loktite to their threads. Absolute worst case scenario those plastic side covers go flying off at high speeds. Only one way to find out! Would look even more mechanical if they go missing so not the end of the world haha!

I did a once over with bleeding the brakes and I went through 2 quarts of DOT 4. I spent a lot of time bleeding my first caliper, passenger rear, and after going through more than half a quart I figured I’d there all day. Assumed I must need to go around a few times since the system is BONE dry. That’s why I was curious about the ABS bleed function on forscan. I’ll bleed them again today, couple times if I need to. Won’t stop until they’re perfect. I’m frustrated but I’m preparing the car for a better first drive experience. I think sorting out the new parts is probably more work than tuning. I’ll take it. Car looks better with most everything blacked out IMO. IMG 2287
And all you DIY’s I found this stuff at Ace Hardware. Everyone should at least 1 roll in their garage. For the meantime, it stopped by weeping Fragola 90 PTFE fuel fitting in its tracks! Bone dry! I’ll remake the line at my leisure over the winter. IMG 2288IMG 2289

Keep updating. The forscan thing is confusing because the economic embargo with Russia makes it difficult to get a paid version. Everywhere I read people are using the free version and not able to get extended license. Hopefully there is a workaround

In Forscan you had used BT firs so its trying to connect to that - you can change the order it connects in.

Support Request

Generate free 2 months trial Extended License Key
looks like you can still buy the 1 yr license ... used to be for much longer.

What are limitations of free trial Extended License?
Yes I have to request it. I was going to figure out how to request it but wanted to check out the abs bleed but got sidetracked in forscan connection settings and the computer left the chat lol

So did you remove the OBDLink USB cable and restart? If you do and it Blue Screens then it could be a hard drive issue. Otherwise if you remove the OBDLink USB cord and Windows starts it could be you didn't install the USB driver from their site https://www.obdlink.com/support/ex/ Download and install that FTDI driver then download lower on the page the Firmware Updated. Then update the USB OBDLink dongle with that program. That programs latest version is 5.10.3.

That updates the dongle and makes sure it works properly with the computer.

Windows 10 or 11?

PM me and I can walk you through it if you need.

I didn’t remove it but I restated the computer once with it still plugged in and got the same message. Then I handed it off to my GF to mess with and I believe she’s recovering it now or like, in less than an hour maybe. So once I get running again I’ll need to download everything again. I’ll look to download that link so it recognizes the OBDlink EX. I’ve got windows 11.

Out there somewhere
I'm looking at this dongle for forscan for my '14 f150 so please post what you find out.:typing:
My personal opinion, for use with FORScan, the vLinker dongles are better and cheaper. For PC usb use the vLinker FS. For FORScan Lite and Android bluetooth use vLinker FD. For IOS or Android and FORScan Lite use vLinker FD+. The bluetooth adapters will also work with a PC, though not recommended. Recommended by FORScan and available on Amazon.
