I just replaced an old motorcraft oil filter gasket that had maybe 50 thousand on it which I used to seal the obsolete gasket for the oil filter cooler to block. I purchased napa 601-1363 and apparently in the kit there is one red o ring that fits best.
The red one fit better than the black one of similar size. I guess i'll find out if it lasts. The motorcraft gasket had to be retorqued at one point, because the oil filter bolt was so loose I could turn it with my fingers.
I had no idea rubber can flatten that much and take set. When I pulled that gasket today it was the thickness of the original but the rubber was smushed out the sides.
The head in that location almost completely dried out a thick oil filter gasket in short time. I'd like to believe the o ring I just installed is of better material.
