Awesome! I heard those were good, especially the newer ones with the updated hot end. I have a Bambu Labs P1S, so pretty much the same thing, easy to use and fast! I use it for my TPU, ASA, and Nylon-CF parts.

If you would like a hand with printing prototypes and checking fitment on my car I'd be happy to assist, especially if you wanted to do large format (36cm cubed) or multi-material parts.

Looking forward to your results!

Test fit was a success, now I'm working out the finish on the top, playing with some fillers now to get it smooth. Once I have it smooth and painted I'm going to pop in the gauges and have a final image. Here are some images of the print in primer so you can all see the fitment. I will offer it in bare unfinished for a lesser cost for those that want to wrap it or do it themselves. What do you all think?20240923 16272820240923 16273120240923 16273520240923 162744

Since you don't have overhangs on the side, you might consider printing this on end and using a tree support to minimize the amount of post-processing to the "top." You could also play with rounding/filleting an inside structure so that supports would not be required, but that may end up using more filament than tree supports would anyway.

my biggest issue has been getting the top to print smooth, my very first test run was a scale print at about 25% size and i printed it on the side, issue becomes that although slight there is a contour to the side and the estimated time after I slice it nearly triples with it on its side (32 hours), I made some adjustments and got it to where I can print it right side up using the tree support, looks promising and only adds 3 hours, so that will be the next print. for the prototype I just went to town with sanding and filler and then realized perfectly smooth while entirely possible and some may prefer it, isnt sitting right with me. thinking about adding some texture to it either with spray on texture or just wrapping it in a matte leather to try and match the dash material. I will definitely update with what happens with the change in orientation and I do appreciate the tip.

Ahh, okay. You might also consider printing it in two pieces (cage as one piece with 4 walls, top as another) and then using solvent such as SciGrip Weld-On #3 or #4 to affix them together. That will probably print faster, will print smoother, and the time to solvent weld together will be much less than the post-processing to sand/smooth.

I did consider trying to break it down either by cutting it in half and adding dowel points to strengthen it or by adding the clips post print, even thought about removing the face which would enable interchangeable face plates at a later date. Also considered removing the top all together and putting in provisions to accept the stock speaker grille as a lid. unfortunately all came with a compromise or would have required massive redesign. the ideas are certainly not off the table, I think after I have this one under control I may do a second design that I will incorporate print friendly ideas that also add options for the end user.

Here we go, the wait is over and i hope it was worth it. I have number 1 installed in my car already, waiting on a relay to run power.

The speaker grille holes are a little unsightly but I corrected it and future prints will be uniform. These can also be customized in any way you want. Logos, extra holes for switches, flat section for accessories, with or without speaker grille holes. They'll be available primed or plasti dipped black. There is enough room when installed to wrap it in vinyl or leather if you so choose.

Ill probably list them on ebay or etsy for $150 dipped or $140 primed. Im letting them go to forum members for $120 dipped or $110 primed. message me or email [email protected] to order and customize.

New and improved pod, after living with the first one for a week and a special request, I had some ideas and I pulled back on the angles and shortened the profile. It's more glossy than I'd like but that's an easy fix, with less curves and a shorter visor it will be easier to wrap with matte leather to match the dash. I think this one looks better.
