I was very pleased w/ my allseason michelin pilots. I have both the h and the z rating on my car. I went to sears the other day, michelin has discontinued my z rated pilots. After experimenting w/ many h type tires (including the performance and life of h rated michelins)... the z rated seems the way to go w/ life and performance (and recomended by tire dealers for the SHO).
I'm in need of two new all season tires. Anyone know of a good long lasting tread w/ a z rating to match my 225 55 size??? tirerack has choices, but I don't trust the strange people I don't know, driving different cars than me, and coming up w/ reports on the tires around 1500miles stronge.
What do my fellow SHO ownes ride (not discontinued.. I hope) In my size?? Or a Close size... headbang

Z-Rating is anything over 149 MPH. The Pirelli P7000 Supersports I have are W rated, which is 168, so technically, they are Z rated. I have not noticed anything bad with these tires, and the wet traction was pretty impressive to me. I slammed on the brakes on night in the rain, the ground was pretty wet, and the tires just grabbed, also noticed better traction with take offs.

In New Mexico, why are you limiting your choices to all season? Unless you are dealing with snow on a regular basis (Taos ski instructor?), you would be much better served for dry and wet road conditions with the ultra and max performance tires. These tire categories tend to have better wet road traction than the all season tires and certainly greater dry road stick.

Check with TireRack.com and search for tires by size, selecting the attributes that you are seeking. You will get a good idea of what tires are available and for what prices. You can sort the results by factors such as price or performance category. There are also links to comparison tests and surveys to help you make a knowledgeable decision for your specific driving environment and needs. You will want at least V-rated tires for the SHO.

My last message was unclear to me.. doh

I love my Z rated pilots! Damn them for not making them in my size anymore.

Tirerack is very helpfully sdpatt, I do know how to work there website. I just don't trust peoples comments in the surveys, most have 3-4 comments.. I'f I could read 100 from people who road the particular tire on the SHO, I would be greatly satisfied.

If you are ever to visit Toas or NM look me up, I can give you or anyone here some private skiing lessons. :D

Living here in NM, roads are mostly mud dirt, crappy asssfault. I comute regularly in these horrid conditions. Every winter (it snows) and have had many 5mph journeys across an ice packed highway ranging from 100-150 miles.

I need my all seasons tires!!!! h-z ratings a must!

what do you guys think about these Continental ContiExtremeContact's? good rating... which I'm hesitant to trust.

I am in search in the under $150 range. Does anyone have any all seasons that are a cut above the norm?

almost best...

I was thinking about getting those Continentals. Asked here and got some conflicting advice here. If you read some more reviews on Tire Rack about that tire you'll see a couple SHO owners. They didn't like them on the SHO.

I just put some Toyo Proxes TPTs (225/60/16) on my GTP. So far they're pretty good. Smooth, quiet, nice grip in dry and wet conditions. Nothing really stands out about them, just a solid tire I guess. The only place I've found online that sells them is 1010tires.com.

The tire I had on my Team Dynamic Motorsports were BF Goodrich KDWSs (225/55/16). Very nice tire, wish they came in the size I needed for the GTP. I still have the wheels and tires, shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I've heard very good things about the Bridgestones.

Also heard the Pirellis were nice but that earlier model of them were better.

I run the Yokohama Avid V-4 on my SHO. They were just rotated and balanced this week. There was no uneven wear after 17k miles. I drive my SHO daily, year round and suffer through the occassional winter storm in Missouri. These tires have been awesome in all conditions. Yes, I know I'm giving up the ultra-performance that other tires have to offer but I need the all round performance that these tires offer. I've been entirely satisfied with these v rated tires on my SHO.

Oh, and by the way, I'm one of the individuals who left feedback on tirerack's website. wink
