Bought a car with 109k miles, everything seems great except the trans shifts seem goofy. But goofy in a way I can't pinpoint, not a particular shift, not at particular speeds.

Car gets 11mpg I've had it 3 weeks, when I bought it the dash says the milage average was 16mpg.

I took it to ford dealer to have them make a new key and as preventative maintenance I was going to start getting flushes done, starting with the PTU.
They looked up the history with ford and found at 103 k last owner complained of shifting issues after passing people on the highway and decelerating from 70mph the shift would "slip"

The reply to that ticket was that they checked it and it wasn't a trans issue, the rear caliper had frozen and they replaced it.

Then they had a ticket that said "Customer complains of smell" found seals leaking from PTU, fluid was burt replaced PTU 4.7 hours.

There was a bunch of recalls done but never any maintenance on the sheet he gave me with history. Since there was no reason to change fluid in a ptu with 6k I instead had them do a trans service and coolant flush.

As background my job is 3 miles away with 5 stop signs and 7 lights and I go home four lunch so thats the trip it makes 4 times a day, so yeah very short trips of all stop and go.

What should be the next set of maintenance, Is there a way to identify or diagnose the trans.

Never owned a turbo car, AWD car and my last daily driver since 2004 was a mustang with complete maximum motorsports set up with torque arm, pan hard, Bilstein coil overs, tubular everything and the trans tuned for very quick hard shifts so I have no idea if maybe I am overthinking the trans but after feeling it was weird and having the dealer say the last owner complained I'm kinda worried.

Well you should at least get 16 with short trips that's what I was getting when I lived in the city with 15 minutes warm up before going anywhere. Now I get 18-22 5 miles from town and only two or three lights to work. In the summer no warm ups I just won't floor it untill the weekend to blow things out.

Your driving constitutes special operations service in Ford's eyes. And being a performance OCD group that we are, we double down on Ford's recommendations. Meaning 5 yr/60K trans, brake, and coolant from the get go, 2 yr/30K for PTU, 4 yr/60K for RDU. On the outside. Feel free to change more regularly.

Waiting for the engine/trans to warm up before going anything more than half-throttle is a great suggestion.

Replace all fluids regularly, full synthetic wherever possible.

You will want to use a stout engine oil to combat fuel dilution, because short tripping hurts the oil in that fashion, particularly on GTDI engines with their high compression. So a 5W30 at minimum. If summers are warm, you may even want to move up to 10W30 if in the deep south or overseas. And/or keep OCIs to a minimum. 6 months/5K miles whichever comes first.
