I am looking for some advice on the purchase of a '95 MTX SHO. The car has 158K on it and the asking price is $4000. The car drives and runs great. No surging, dieing, bad noises, etc. The exterior is in really good shape. The interior is dirty but can be cleaned. The moonroof is not working and the ceiling console with the switch is loose/broken. The driver's door switch for the passenger side rear window will roll that window down but not up. That window's door switch will work the window in both directions. The cruise is not working either.

I spent a good 2 to 3 hours going over shotimes.com looking at possible fixes for these items. The only one I couldn't find any info on was the moonroof. Can anyone point me in the right direction? The salesman said the previous owner was a middle-aged woman who had all the scheduled maintenance peformed at the dealership. I forgot to ask for any paperwork proving this. I figure that (if I purchase it) it's a good idea to perform a 60K maintenance myself. Any suggestions on where the best/least expensive place is to purchase all the needed parts? Thanks for all the help.

Kevin

P.S. feel free to give any and all advice

as far as the moon roof you can **** out those little lighs with a screwdriver then ther are 2 screws, one on each side that you take out the unit slides back and down. you will see wehre the switch came disconected. all you have to do is clip it into place. if its broken therse sevral differnt things that sho times has were you replace it with sompthig stronger. then the moon roof shoud work.
as far as the window it sounds like a wire could have came loos i would take off the interior door pannal and check.
for the 60K if it was done at a regualar delership it probobly didnt have the valve timing ajustment and posobly the timing belt. it will probobly need one. i know proformance plus has a good service price of 650 or so. but thats not real close to you not shure about any thing neer you.

Thanks for the replies. I can do all the work myself (I'm a part-time mechanic) so I just want to know where to purchase the parts.

FWIW, IMHO, that price seems too high for that kind of mileage and condition. Usually someone who doesn't take the effort to keep the interior clean doesn't take the effort to keep up with maintenance or otherwise take good care of their car.

Just because the salesman told you she had all the maintenance done properly by the dealer doesn't make it so. Car salespeople are probably the least reliable source for this information, and I suspect if you ask for documentation of the maintenance it will suspiciously not be available.

The sunroof problem may just be a bad switch which is common and might explain why the console is screwed up.

IIWM, I'd walk away unless they came down to the $2500-$3000 range max.

I bought my car 95' ATX for $4200, last spring. It had only 98,000 miles, and was in very good condition, inside and outside.

The dealer's price seems a little high to me.

Here is a guide on fixing the sunroof switch. click me
