Hello everyone. I have a 1992 MTX that has been in the family since it was brought home brand new in 1991. Recentely, I have noticed that the shifter rod is able to be rotated 360 degrees. I've taken it to Ford and found out that they have no parts for the SHO, at all. Was told that the pins had broken in the shifter box. The car is not driven much, but I am concerened with the shifter coming out in my hand one day while im shifting. Ive tried to contact Mike at SHO Source in Jan 2023, was told that he would look for a replacement shifter rod for me and then I have heard nothing else from him since then. Any advice? Thank you

read through this post, post in the Want to Buy section to see if anyone has a shifter (and beware of scammers on this site). Try contacting Shosource again as they are pretty busy and may have forgotten or try contacting SV&HOdan by starting a conversation with him, click on the envelope in the top right of the page. In one of the post, there was someone who fixed it by welding it.

SHO Source is BUSY. They are the only dedicated business supporting SHO's.
Send SHO Source another message.
Are you on Facebook? There are several reliable people there that sell parts. This is the place to go for parts.

If you have never modified the shifter then it cannot come off in your hand. It's mounted directly to the shifter box and has to come off from under the car. I don't think it can be repaired once it's broken as you describe.

I think I have some spare shifters. Send me a PM if you are still in need and interested.

My '90 with a rod shifter has had the same problem for a number of years now. Works fine except I sometimes catch the wrong gear when changing. Mike was going to see if he could come up with a fix, but that was some time ago.

SHO Forum is mostly about the Gen 4s these days.
You might want to ask to join the Gen 1 & 2 Taurus SHO group on Facebook which covers '89-95. There's also a Taurus SHO gen 1, 2 and 3 owners club (1989 to 1999).

I'm actually in the same boat. I haven't dug into it yet, but I did start searching and then this post popped up. Mine is an 89 with the rod shifter upgrade.
