170f t-stat and fan contoller

I put a 170F t-stat on my V8 but found out that if you don't turn the fans on that it does not do anygood as thetemp will still go up to ~190F eventually. I installed an adjustable fan controller from Summit Racing. I can set the fan to come on at 80F on up. I also hooked up a small LED so I can tell when the fans are on.

Currently the fans are set to come on at ~170F. I used Mac's fan switch directions on V8SHO.com, http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/Cooling_Fan_Override_Switch.htm to use the OEM relays to start the fans on low. They will still kick up on high when the A/C is on. I'm trying to find a source of the 35mph signal to keep them from coming on at speeds above that.

The t-stat I got at NAPA for $12.00 (part# THM
17) and the switch from Summit Racing for $25.00 (part # FLX-31147).

I'm thinking maybe the sensor should be in the lower radiator hose justr below the WP. That way it will come on when the coolant going into the motor from the radiator gets too hot.

I like what you did Paul..... I might think about this idea.....

Our motor run good when there cool... though not when there cold. I ran my best time when the motor was just reaching 180 degrees and the air is cool.

This is a simple and inexpensive mod... I give it thumbs_u thumbs_u up.

Thanks Mac. I'm going to leave the sensor where it is. I just adjusted it up a bit. By my temp probe the thermosat is running about 170F on the which is what it is rated at. When I checked it in the house before installing it was opening at 175F.

This is trivial but,

I measured my Coolant temp with my trusty multimeter w/temp probe.

90 degree Missouri heat temp are approx.

215-220 Fans will kick in.

195-205 Fans will shut down

Stock Thermostat. I figured average temp of my engine would be 200-210 during those 90 degree days. Computer interface was around that I believe also.
