I have a 2016 Perf.Package with sony and sunroof. 52k.

I have an intermitent fault i want to make sure is not characteristic. I shut off my car and the front windshield defrost was selected before shut down. When I restart my car the front control interface module and the touchscreen both show the climate control is "on" but the defrost has no indication that it is on. The blower motor topically is not on, but sometimes can be on.

If I press the front defrost (fcim or touchscreen) the system will go to auto. If i press it again it will go to defrost.

Tipically this occurs at colder temps near 32 or lower. This is seasonal (winter and fall) when temps start to dip. Too hot or cold it won't act up.

Will occur if remote started or with push button. If remote started he cabin will be preconditioned and blower will work. Turn on with push button, blower turns off and stays off. Have to press defrost twice to get front defrost.

Master reset complete and still can duplicate.

No DTCs

HVAC module is new.

Topically if the HVAC module is reprogrammed or the battery is disconected this will resolve the fault temporarily.

I do have a vehucle scalable security alarm but this was added after concnern.

The car will return to any other last settings, short of rear defrost, upon start up.

My question for the community. Does anyone else experience the front windshiled defrost not resuming after restarting?

Thank you,

Are you remote starting? If so, there is an option in the menus, I forget the details, but basically the choices are "leave climate control as-is" or "reset to auto" or something to that affect.

If you're not remote starting (with the OEM remote start) than I'm not sure what's going on. I remember something was different between my 2013 and my 2016, I believe, but again, don't remember off the top of my head.

Yep. Doesn't matter.

The remote climate control setting I'm my understanding is how the system should react when remote started. How it reacts when started after that *?* should be your last settings. I have it set usually at 70 in auto. It has never changed it to 72 when I have the remote start set to "auto" and started it after the remote start event.

It' a quirk that' frustrating that's all. This and my remote start...

Only time I have seen the defrost function come on on startup or remote start is with the full manual HVAC systems (score one for "dumb" systems!). Not sure what the reasoning is behind that. So instead I have resorted to "panel" at full blast to get the cabin and indirectly the glass heated up/cleared.

I'll have to look next time but the defroster will come on with the remote start(along with the rear defrost and heated seat and steering wheel if cold enough as per my settings in the left screen menu) but IIRC it goes back to auto(what I normally have on) and the seats, wheel, etc turn off when I get in and power on the car. This is on a 2013

I have confirmed this is a software issue. Funny enough it' not with the H.V.A.C. module but the F.C.I.M.

Events lead up to me disassmbling the car for the dealership to put in another HVAC module. Since I had the car apart to get to it (it' below the A.C.M. behind the F.C.I.M. I verified the concern. Next I disconected the FCIM and tested HVAC operation. It goes into a default state. One cannot change temp or control the blower, but the blower defaults on. I believe it defaulted to defrost.

Connected FCIM again and the front defrost works properly. So the battery disconnct seems to be resetting a logic lock in the FCIM.

Unfortunatly I did not listen to the dealership last visit. They confirmed a '16 and an '18 operate the same.

The FCIM is a plug and play module meaning no software updates.
