I'm new here but I've got a 11 sho and it acted like the brake booster went bad, brakes got hard just like when driving my 70 f100 sport custom without power brakes. I've replaced the brake booster and now the brakes want to just seize up after about 2 or 3 presses and would have to brakes the lines loose at the Mc to release the pressure off. The brakes worked just fine before the swap other than the hard pedal. I've tried adjusting the screw inside the booster but makes no difference. Need some help please never ran across this problem before....

usually the problem comes in 2 parts/phases. either the booster or the abs. since you have already changed the booster, try working on the abs.

very likely, the brake fluid has not been serviced regularly. so perform a flush on it. then use forscan lite's abs bleed service function to get the air out of the abs before bleeding the system. if that does not work, try a few hard stops that activate the abs. if forward does not work, try reverse. you can also repeat the fluid flush a couple of times if nothing else works. bleed the abs each time.

may ultimately have to replace the hcu or the abs module.

Not to hijack your post or anything but I just literally took my car in because of a hard braking problem and also found that my brake booster was failing, the mechanic is wanting to charge me $1350 to get that fixed (plus $3600 because my rear turbo is leaking oil and whining when I drive but that’s a whole other issue)

Anyways I was wondering how hard it is to change the brake booster yourself? I definitely am not willing to pay almost $1400 for that.

it's 2-3 hrs of work. usually you can swing the needed components out of the way to do the job, no disconnection of fluid lines is necessary. but fluid flush still highly advisable.

also the stoplamp switch is something most firsttimers trip up on. good to have a new one handy jic.

may help some

You’re da real MVP @SHOdded and you too @kryptto for the helpful advice and info.
So I still need to figure out what the loud whining noise I have is whether it’s the tranny having issues or the dreaded rear turbo that’s on its way out. Best way to describe it is the noise gets faster and a little bit louder as I go faster MPH but not sure if that sounds like one or the other as far as Taurus SHO common problems go.

I’ll be sure I make my own post so I don’t clutter this one with my own problems (well, car wise at least) :smash::nuts:

these transmissions IME don't tend to whine when fluid is maintained unless there is something wrong internally. now PTU, yes i have heard it whine, a year for me before it gave out. cant recall if it increased w speed.

haven't had a pulley failure yet, but check on yours ... maybe a/c or alternator is wanting attention.

so isolating where the sound is coming from would help a lot.
