My Lifetime Warranty Napa starter for my 94 ATX lasted all of 18 months (9000 miles). It was a 12 tooth-the new replacement is a 10 tooth. Is this going to shorten the life of the starter? It's working fine. Did all ATX SHO's have 12 tooth starters. I'm looking for a spare starter and have a shop rebuild it for me.

The 10 tooth is going to burn out in short order on an ATX. It's meant for the MTX, which has a much lighter rotating assembly without a torque converter full of ATF bolted up to everything.

Try to find another SHO 12 tooth, or use the 12 tooth starter from the 3.8L Taurus/ Sable application of the same year.

Another option is the new manufacture Ford clone starter from NAPA. Knock on wood, the one on my SHO is doing fine.
